PNP stages 1st 'GandaPulis' beauty pageant



There was no swimsuit segnment in the competition.

Only the shining beauty and advocacy of 27 policewomen from around the country who took part in the first Miss Philippine National Police (Gandang Pulis) contest at Camp Crame in Quezon City last March 28.

In the end, PO1 Arla Ray Paciencia of Police Regional Office 8 (Eastern Visayas) emerged as the winner in the contest both for single and married policewomen.


"I am very, very happy! I didn't expect it," said Paciencia, during an interview after the nearly four-hour jampacked show.


Paciencia, 24, won P25,000 cash, a trophy and other products from this year's sponsors.

Asked what she will do with the prize money, the policeman said: "My sister is going abroad. So bibigyan ko s'ya ng pocket money and for my family as well."


Paciencia, a registered nurse, said that her advocacy focuses on gender equality. "It's not your physical appearance, it is not what you are but how capable of what you can do. I have suffered discrimination that's why I inspire people through medical missions, teach children and do volunteer activities."


First runner-up honors went to P01 Leizel L. Abejero, PRO 9, 1st runner-up; PO1 Bernie Jane L. dela Cruz, PRO 3; 2nd runner-up; PO1 Nova Em N. Lago; PRO 11; and PO1 Janice B. Etang, PRO 13.


Police officials led by P/Chief Superintendent Gilberto Cruz, director, Police Community Relations Group, and PDDG Ramon Apolinario, Deputy Chief PNP for Administration, were present to give support to the first beauty pageant of PNP.


In spite of the limited time of preparations for beauty pageant, the production mounted by the Prime Events Productions Philippines Foundation, Inc. (PEPPS) was a resounding success, guests said.


PEPPS President Carlo Morris Galang and PEPPS Vice President were on-hand to see to it that the show was running smooth.
