Jodi Sta. Maria excited to go back to school

Actress Jodi Sta. Maria has said that she is excited to go back to school again this year.

"After seven years, I know God has been opening doors for me to be able to finish what I've started. In 2010 kasi, I finished my high school. And then right away, I jumped into college. Pero naging sobrang hirap yung pagsabayin yung pag aaral at pagaartista. It really took a toll on my health," said Sta. Maria, during an interview on "Tonight With Boy Abunda" on ABS CBN.

"But now I believe that si God ang nag o orchestrate ng lahat and I was able to find a school na may home study school program na fit talaga for people working full-time like me. God willing in 2 1/2 years I'll be getting my diploma. So it's never too late," said Sta. Maria, who will be seen in the latest movie "Dear Other Self."

If she pursues medicine, Sta. Maria said that she wants to specialize in oncology, the study and treatment of tumors.

Sta. Maria graduated from high school at the Southville International School and Colleges. Then she went to De La Salle University-Dasmarinas and studied Medical Biology. But after one year, she stopped to focus on the hugely popular morning serye "Be Careful With Heart" with Richard Yap.

In an interview then with "Showbiz News Ngayon," she said: “Gusto ko mag-Bio, gusto ko mag-Pol Sci, gusto ko mag-Community Development. So bahala na. Iba rin talaga 'yong natapos mo ang pag-aaral mo na napagsikapan mo talaga."

Asked what her career would be if she did not pursue showbiz, Sta. Maria said: "If not an actor, doctor. Pinanghahawakan ko yung pangarap na yun at naniniwala ako na isang araw mangyayari pa rin sya. Hindi manngayon pero siguro sa tamang panahon."

In her latest movie, Sta. Maria will be working with actors Xian Lim and Joseph Marco.

When asked what it's like working with the two actors, she said: "Fun. Sabi nila naintimidate raw sila sa akin. Sabi ko naman sa anong paraan? Siguro kasi pag hindi ako nakatawa, siguro mukha akong masungit. But as much as possible, gusto kong manging kumportable yung mga katrabaho ko para mas maganda yung flow."

Sta. Maria, 34, said that she's coming back to television soon. She also said that she would love to be teamed-up again with Yap. Sta. Maria has a son named Thirdy by Panfilo Lacson Jr., son of Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson. - ROBERT REQUINTINA/TEMPO
