Jaime Fabregas defends some scenes in 'Ang Probinsyano'

Multi-awarded veteran actor Jaime Fabregas has defended the violent scenes in the top-rating primetime show "Ang Probinsyano" on ABS CBN, saying that the show has delivered positive messages to televiewers.

"Hindi naman siguro. I don't think that the show can take credit for the violence in the country. That's a big thing," said Fabregas when asked if the No. 1 show has influenced people linked to destabilization efforts in the country these days.

Fabregas made the reaction after he signed as one of the endorsers for Vine Holistic Medical Aesthetics held at the Phoenix Hotel in Pasay City recently.

Aside from Fabregas, Dr. Emehly Sevilla-Castillo, president of Vine Holistic Medical Aesthetics, said that other endorsers for the center are John Wilson of the Phoenix Fuel Masters, Kapuso star Taki Saito, and twins Kenny and Toffee Santos.

Fabregas added: "Nagkakataon lang siguro na since we are doing police stories, nagkakataon lang na merong nangyayaring ganun at the same time. But of course, we are television. We try to make it bigger than what it is."

"Ang nangyayari kasi ngayon big na rin eh. So I think it's purely coincidence. I doubt very much that we can influence these people," the actor said.

But Fabregas pointed out that the show delivers positive messages to the viewers.

"We try to influence positively. We've had problems with MTRCB because of the violence and ilang beses na kaming pinatawag. Actually pagna nunuod ka ng news ngayon, mas marami pang violence. And that's real life;"

"Sa amin hindi real life and you know it's a television show. Pero yung pinapalabas nila sa news kung minsan mga binabaril, mga duguan," said Fabregas, who plays the role of P/Supt. Delfin Borja in the popular teleserye.

Fabregas also said that while the show has been extended until January 2018, there was no assurance that all the stars would still be there.

"We were told na we will be extended until January 2018. Although hindi naman lahat ng mga artista will be there. Like ngayon marami ng nawala so may mga bagong guest ngayon," he said.

Fabregas, 67, also said that he watches the show when not busy.

"More than anything else, one is watching your performance and watching the performance of somebody else. Aside from that, we feel so much for the show that we get into the story. So we watch it for that. It's like becoming a real family already. Two years na kami," Fabregas added. - ROBERT REQUINTINA/TEMPO
