Jewel of the Philippines, KIF forge special partnership



Jewel of the Philippines, a multi-titled beauty competition led by events and pageant director and beauty queen maker John de la Vega, has signed a partnership with KIF Travel and Leisure, a company that ventures into property development and applications, during ceremonies held at the Resorts World Manila in Pasay City recently.

De la Vega said that the special partnership with KIF owner and CEO Tu Yu Han will boost the wonderful friendship between the Philippines and China.

"The rich culture and friendly people make the Philippines a perfect destination for both business and leisure. And the partnership with Jewel of the Philippines is a good start which might extend all the way to the staging of a new Philippine-based international contest - Jewel of the World - next year. It is also our way of showing our love and appreciation for the wonderful friendship the two countries enjoy," said Mr. Tu Yu Han, during welcome remarks for the launch of the pageant.


Apart from property development and applications, KIF Travel and Leisure is also into tourism, travel and leisure.

With offices in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau, KIF has expended its operations in Asia, including the Philippines.

De la Vega said that the partnership aims to introduce non-traditional "cultural experience" by way of a beauty pageant.


Tu Yu Han believes the Philippines makes a strategic regional hub for the company as it boosts of many scenic spots, colorful traditions and exciting adventures.

"My goal is for the pageant to be come an avenue to showcase the rich Filipino culture and its truly magnificent artistic expressions through a spectacle of beauty. One that is always overlooked is the promotion of our own culture and heritage," said de la Vega.

"With the re-branding of Jewel of the Philippines to a 'cultural pageant,' young Filipinas are expected to be made our culturally aware eventually becoming 'advocates of Philippine culture and the arts,' " de la Vega also said.


Reigning Jewel of the Philippines Natasha Manuel already competed in the Miss ASEAN 2017 pageant earlier this year.

Other winners - Romellean Pontino - will attempt to succeed fellow Filipina Jeslyn Santos, the reigning Miss United Continents, in Guayaquil, Ecuador on Sept. 23. Last Sept. 10, Cindy de Vera left for Taiwan to compete in Miss Tourism World on Oct. 3. The last to compete is Inna Gita who will fly to Antalya City, Turkey for the Miss Globe International contest on  Oct. 10.

Twenty-four candidates are competing in this year's pageant. The grand coronation of Jewel of the Philippines 2017 will be held at the UP GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center on Katipunan Avenue in Diliman, Quezon City on Oct. 7. - ROBERT REQUINTINA
