3 ambassadors to join gov't campaign vs HIV/AIDS



Three persons - male, female and trans woman - will join the government's campaign to fight human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) which causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) after they were chosen ambassadors of the LHIVE Free REDvocates Advocacy by the Department of Health (DoH) during a tri-pageant held at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City recently.

The winners are: male - Joseph Xavier Pili of Naga City; Kelvin Kai Angala, San Pedro, 1st runner-up; and Jearu Ed Magbuhat, Batangas, 2nd runner-up.

Female: Patrixia Santos, of Daraga, Albay; Shane Quintana Tormes, Rizal, 1st runner-up; and Precious Play Neyra, Isabela, 2nd runner-up.

Trans woman: Pan Yang (Stefania Cruz Lopez), Rizal; Uly Galagnara, Santiago City, 1st runner-up; and Brigite Salvatore, Sulu, 2nd runner-up.

The top three winners will join former Miss International Kylie Verzosa in a series of promotional activities of the DoH that will dispel wrong information and negative stigma associated with the virus, as well as bring help to individuals who are infected by it.

"What we are trying to do here is bring the conversation about HIV and AIDS in the mainstream media; sort of putting it front and center, so that people who are at risk or already have the virus will not be afraid to seek for help,” says Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III in his message.

More than 100 entries were received by the organizers for the search. "The winners will dedicate a significant amount of their time in helping spread awareness and debunk myths about HIV and AIDS, as well as promote safe sex. And we expect the winners to put the movement high in their priority list,” Duque adds. - ROBERT REQUI NTINA
