Here's how you can help the victims of 'Usman'

Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray called on the public on New Year's Day, to help the people of Albay in Bicol and other areas who were devastated by rains and landslides brought about by tropical depression Usman last Dec. 30.

"There have been 57 reported deaths from landslides and floods caused by the recent tropical depression Usman that affected the region Dec. 30," said Gray on her first Instagram story for 2019 which was uploaded last Jan. 2.


Gray is the first Bicolano to win the Miss Universe crown after she was crowned in Bangkok, Thailand last Dec. 17. She is now in New York City to fulfill her reign for one year and will begin her press tour in the US on Jan. 7.

The Filipino-Australian beauty queen is expected to come home again for her official homecoming parade and first press conference as Miss Universe sometime in February.

Gray said that "Aksyon Para sa Tiwi" is asking for donations for the typhoon victims who need food packs, water, flashlight and batteries, medicine and hygiene kits.

The pledges may be dropped at Door 2 Citispire Bldg., Imelda Roces Avenue, Brgy. 38, Gogon, Legazpi City. Contact numbers are 0927-665-4715.


Gray said that the Team Albay Youth Organization is also accepting water, ready-to-eat food, blankets, tarpaulins and other relief items.

The Camarines Sur Chapter of the Philippine Red Cross is accepting donations in cash and in kind, she said. "You may bring or send donation to the Philippine Red Cross-Camarines Sur Chapter beside ABS-CBN, Panganiban Drive, Naga City."

Even fellow Bicolano popular shoe maker Jojo Bragais said that he is going on sale for seven days to help the victims of Usman in Bicol.

"This is also the reason why I wasn’t able to come home to celebrate New Year with my family. So with this, I am going on sale for seven days. Starting Jan. 2 till Jan. 8, I am selling my pageant heels 6.5 inches for P5,500 provided you get two pairs. That's like P2,750 per pair instead of the usual P3,800 per pair," said Bragais, a close friend of Gray. - ROBERT REQUINTINA
