Filipino-Belgian crowned Face of Tourism PH 2019

A Filipino-Belgian was crowned Face of Tourism Philippines 2019 during a pageant held at the SMX Convention Center at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City last April 7.

Roxanne A. Baeyens, 22, from Baguio City edged out 14 other girls in the tourism-driven national pageant. She will later represent the Philippines in the Miss Tourism Culture Universe 2019 pageant in Myanmar later this year.

"I can’t wait for the next chapter of my journey knowing I have a supportive family beside me," said Baeyens on Instagram.

A graduate of St. Louis University in Baguio City, Baeyens is an artist at Cornerstone Entertainment, Inc., the talent group that handles popular artists such as Angeline Quinto, Claudia Barretto, Dominic Roque, Empoy Marquez, Inigo Pascual, Jaya, Yeng Constantino. etc.

During the finals, Baeyens was asked the common question: "Why should you be the next Face of Tourism Philippines 2019?"

Baeyens answered: "As a tourism graduate, I've learned one important thing. The best way to find yourself is to lose in the service of others. If I were to gain the crown tonight, I will encourage others to be like me not only to help the environment, contribute to the economy of the Philippines, but teach them even with the small act of goodness, it could lead to something big;

"That's what makes a winner and that's the life I want to lead. God is happy if He will give us a gift. But God would be happier if we would be the answer to somebody else's prayer."

Other winners were: Face of Eco-Tourism 2019 - Candidate #4, Aubrey Angelic R. Neis, Marikina City, Face of Eco-Tourism 2019; and Camilla S. Ricarto, Montalban, Rizal, Face of Cultural Heritage.

Other girls who finished in the Top 7 of the competition were Jessica C. Estillore, Micca Rosal, Elize Fae R. Galvez, and Nicolette C. Chua.

Winners of special awards were Micca Rosal, Darling of the Press award; Christy Dayao, Face of the Night; Roxanne Baeyens, Face of Elegance and Face of Wellness; and Joana Rellosa, Face of Paradise.

"The Face of Tourism Philippines beauty search aims to bring the beauty, excitement and wonder of the Philippines to a wider audience by putting focus on the Philippine Tourism Industry and all its allied services and aspects. Its main vision is to create a platform that will involve young Filipinas in the task of creating a positive image for the Philippines and becoming an Ambassador for Philippine Tourism," said Roanne Refrea, national director of Miss and Mister Tourism and Culture Universe contests.

The Face of Tourism Philippines 2019 pageant is organized by La Unica Events in partnership with World Travel Lifestyle Expo 2019, an event that brings together destinations, tourist attractions as well as organizations and business trade relations in the field of hotels, airlines, cruise and other means to travel around the world. - ROBERT REQUINTINA
