34 girls vie for Binibining Pilipinas 2015 pageant

BEAUTIES GALORE --- Some of the 34 official candidates of the 2015 Bb. Pilipinas who were selected during  final screening at the Balay, Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City last January 10.
The 2015 pageant season kicked off with the announcement of the official candidates for the Bb. Pilipinas pageant at the Balay Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City last January 10.

Call time for the media was 3 p.m. But the final screening started at 5 p.m. with delicious snacks and dinner served to us.

Among those who joined the judges panel include Stella Marquez Araneta, chair of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc., and the reigning Binibinis except for Mary Jean Lastimosa who is competing in the 63rd Miss Universe contest in Miami, Florida.

One by one the girls started to arrive. Some came early, some were late. Several media men in the area were giving personal scores to the girls who passed by the tables as they headed for the fitting room.
Finally, the final screening started.

First the girls paraded in the swimsuit of their choice and introduced themselves to the judges. Many girls have good communication skills. But some of them looked funny and awful in their swimsuits.
Time to deliberate on the judges' choices.

From 66 applicants, the girls were trimmed down to 34 bets. There were many familiar names and fresh faces. But I must admit that many of those who made the cut were ready and competitive.

This year's official candidates are Samantha Barbara Balbin, Marvi Ann Razon de Lima, Teresita Sen Marquez, Namrata Neesha Murjani, Christi Lynn Landrito McGarry, Hannah Ruth Sison, Annabel Christine Tia, Toni Alyessa Hipolito, Alaiza Flor Malinao, Ria Rabajante, Princess Joy Camu, Mia Allyson Hernandez Howell, Jenny Feliz Gonzalez; Ann Lorraine Colis, Enrica Roxiele Guieb, Tanya Angelina Nicole Hyde, Ina Dominica Guerrero, Brenna Cassandra Gamboa, Kimberle Mae Penchon, Kimverlyn Suiza, Crissa Mae Mendiola, Anja Vannesa Peter, Christine Balaguer; Rogelie Catacutan, Pia Wurtzbach, Nancy Lee Leonard, Mae Liezel Ramos, Janicel Lubina, Danita Joan Ruazol, Paula Rich Bartolome, Justine Felizarta, Patricia Lae Ejercitado, Renee Sorya Hassani and Kylie Versoza.

The grand coronation night of the 2015 Bb. Pilipinas pageant will be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao on March 15, 2015.

I felt disappointed that 2012 Bb. Pilipinas runner-up Ali Forbes did not make the cut. As she left the Balay, I dashed to her for an exclusive interview. But the moment I asked her a question, she shed tears. Ali tried to talk but her disappointment simply made it uneasy for her to continue. I felt guilty that I talked to her because she looked alright when I approached her. Yet she started to cry when I talked to her.

I know Ali is a strong girl. And maybe God has other plans for her.

Despite the snub, I think Ali is still truly blessed having won third runner-up in 2013 Miss Grand International pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, she is the host of the reality show "Pinoy Beauty Queen," and she has a promising showbiz career. You go girl!

To Ali and the rest of the beauties, good luck and God bless! - ROBERT REQUINTINA
