Las Pinas City celebrates 14th Waterlily festival

Las Pinas City’s rich cultural heritage took centerstage once again in the celebration of the 14th Waterlily Festival. Sen. Cynthia Villar, who started the holding of the festivities in 2006, said the festival through the years,  has served the purpose of being the show window for the city’s most talented performers and the most beautiful and creative people. “We are very proud of this festival which we also hold to express our commitment for a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature and the environment,” Villar said. The yearly festivity was participated in by more than 2,000 attendees and many more tourists and spectators coming from nearby areas. Among the activities lined up for the occasion was the coronation of Miss Las Pinas Waterlily 2019 at Villar Sipag Complex where Mikaela Grace Salcedo of Barangay Pamplona 3 took home the crown and the P25,000 cash prize. Judged as First Runner up and winner of P15,000 cash was Nicole Beatrice Catabay of Barangay Talon 2; and

The Philippines will play host to an international beauty pageant which aims to stop violence against women.  This was announced by Mila Manuel, president of Face of Beauty International pageant, during a press conference held at El Calle Restaurant of Resorts World Manila in Pasay City recently. "The pageant is part of the I Am Me campaign which empowers and encourages the contestants to participate in activities that help alleviate social injustice," said Manuel. Villar welcomes farmers to sustainable pig farming training program

Sen. Cynthia Villar welcomed another batch of backyard swine farmers and agriculture enthusiasts to the sustainable pig farming training program at the Villar SIPAG Farm School in Bacoor, Cavite. More than 30 participants coming from Calabarzon and the National Capital Region signed up for the training program conducted in partnership with theVillar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG) and the Agricultural Training Institute. “Katulad ng iba pang training courses na ginawa namin, hangad namin na matulungan kayo na mapalago ang inyong mga kita sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng mga dagdag na kaalaman sa inyo,” Villar said in her welcome remarks. Villar files bill to create department for overseas

Sen. Cynthia Villar has filed a bill creating a dedicated department that will look after the affairs of 12 million Filipinos overseas. Senate Bill 141 which creates the Department of Migration and Development addresses the problem of redundant and difficult procedures and unnecessary fees government agencies impose on overseas Filipino workers. Once enacted into law, the department will recommend and implement the government's policies, plans and programs for the promotion of protection, safety, development, support, of and for Filipinos overseas and their families left behind. "It is appropriate to create a government agency in the executive department, which shall have the exclusive function of protecting and enforcing the welfare and rights of Filipinos overseas.
