Image
CLARK FREEPORT ZONE, Pampanga --- Beauty queens and other groups spread holiday cheers when they gave gifts to 800 Aeta children here as part of the Christmas project dubbed "Angels' Dream". In response, Jumong Ragondo, an elementary pupil from Sapang-Bato Elementary School, read a thank you letter written in Pilipino in behalf of the Aeta children. Ragondo promised the group that he and the children will study hard. During the first year of the holiday project in 2016, some 300 wishes from Aeta kids were granted. Las PiƱas lantern makers cite excellent craftsmanship

Image
Residents of Las PiƱas City gathered on Dec. 14 to watch the parade of giant colorful lanterns made of recycled materials as part of this year’s celebration of the 13th Las PiƱas Parol Festival. Sen. Cynthia A. Villar and representatives from the local government joined spectators as giant lanterns made by local residents were paraded in the city grounds. “A Filipino Christmas is not complete without a traditional parol hanging outside our homes. I am truly amazed by the creativity of the Las PiƱeros as they continue to come up with unique and creative designs that make Christmas in our city truly alive and colorful,” Senator Villar said. The festival was launched by Senator Villar thirteen years ago to revive the city’s parol-making industry. Villar helped organize the “Samahang Magpaparol ng Las Pinas" and later on set up the Las Pinas Parol Center which has since served as the training area for lantern makers. This year, the lanterns built by Las PiƱeros were used to ad...

Paskong Pinoy: Part 2

Image
Note: This post is written in Tagalog-English para mas lalo nating ma-appreciate ang Pasko sa Pilipinas. And what do you know? - ROBERT REQUINTINA Wow! Ya...

Paskong Pinoy: Part 1

Note: This post is written in Tagalog-English para mas lalo nating ma-appreciate ang Pasko sa Pilipinas. Let's start sa Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City! Ready! Get Set! Go! - ROBERT REQUINTINA Wow! So liwanag! Dazzling lanterns shine in Las Pinas City's 12th Parol Festival

Image
WITH only a few days left before Christmas, Las Pinas residents once again showcased their creative whiz with their amazing giant lanterns for the 12th Parol Festival, now an annual event in the city and eagerly participated in by Las Pineros. Participating parols in the festival were made with recycled materials and followed the required 8 ft x 8 ft size. The Parol Festival was a brainchild of Sen. Cynthia A. Villar when she was still Las PiƱas congresswoman in a bid to boost the city's parol-making industry by organizing the “Samahang Magpaparol ng Las Pinas" and the Las Pinas Parol Center which has since served as the training area for lantern makers. “It felt right at that time to help my constituents to provide them with the venue not only to showcase their talents but to also encourage residents, especially promising entrepreneurs, to venture into parol making which is a highly lucrative industry. And 12 years today, we have given birth to hundreds of creati...
