Villar joins Senate session via teleconference

Senator Cynthia Villar has decided to participate the Senate sessions through teleconferencing to keep her safe from the threats of COVID-19. Villar made the decision in a statement she released on May 3, one day before the Senate resumes its session today, May 4. Her full statement: "I will not be attending sessions physically, but I will participate in Senate proceedings through teleconferencing; "Manny and I are staying at home to be safe. Through the help of our faithful staff, who are living with us temporarily, I have been doing my work continuously. And Manny is managing our business online. I can take the risk, but Manny cannot. He is managing a very big organization with thousands of employees and workers. The companies need him because of a predicted economic recession; "We have experienced recessions in 1983 and 1997. 14th Parol Festival showcases Las Pinas’ parolmakers

The 14th Las Pinas Parol Festival was held with the local parol-makers and young performers taking the center stage at the newly-inaugurated Tent at Vista Global South. The Parol Festival was a brainchild of Sen. Cynthia Villar when she was still Las PiƱas congresswoman in a bid to boost the city's parol-making industry. “The Las Pinas Parol Festival has become a most-awaited tradition during the Christmas season not only for Las Pineros but also for residents of other areas who troop to our city to take part in the festivities,” Villar said. This year’s parol contest has 17 entries from Samahang Magpaparol ng Las Pinas which measure 8 feet to 10 feet.  Prizes for the contest are: First Prize, P20,000; Second Prize, P15,000; and Third Prize, P10,000. Villars play Santa to poor kids

Retired seaman wins house and lot at 9th OFW and Family Summit

A retired seaman won this year’s grand raffle prize of house and lot at the 9th OFW and Family Summit held at the World Trade Center in Pasay last Nov. 12. The name of 62-year-old Elmer Fernandez of Mandaluyong City was drawn by former Senate President Manny Villar assisted by his wife, Sen. Cynthia Villar, infront of over 7,000 summit attendees composed of overseas Filipino workers and their families. “Hindi po ako makapaniwala. Ang dinadasal ko minor prize lang, ito pala ang makukuha ko. Nagpapasalamat ako sa Pamilya Villar at sa bumubuo ng OFW summit,” Fernandez said. Fernandez worked as a machinist/welder of Norwegian cargo vessel Grieg Philippines since 1985. He retired last year and since then tried working as an agent for an insurance company. Fernandez said the Lessandra house and lot unit will be a big help since he is also trying to recover the title of his house in Mandaluyong, which was used as a loan collateral from an Indian lender. Duterte, Villars inaugurate drug rehab, hotel in Las PiƱas

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the Inauguration of the Las PiƱas Drug Rehabilitation Center last Dec. 13 which was donated by former Senate President Manny Villar and Senator Cynthia Villar. The Mella Hotel of Villar owned by Vistaland was also inaugurated by President Duterte. It is in celebration of the birthday of Manny Villar, Nacionalista Party President and the only Filipino who holds the distinction as the first Post-War public official elected as both Speaker of the House of Representatives and Senate President. “The rehab center is part of our contribution to the administration’s campaign against illegal drugs. Through this facility, we can now have a place in Las PiƱas and neighboring cities to transform drug-dependent individuals into fully responsible and productive members of our society,” Cynthia Villar said. Villar family marks Christmas with Baseco and Iruhin kids

The Villar family led by Senate President Manny and Senator Cynthia Villar celebrated their annual Christmas gift-giving get-together with some 150 kids from barangay Baseco in Tondo and barangay Iruhin in Tagaytay at the Christmas Village in Crosswinds, Tagaytay. Joined by Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar and wife Justice Undersecretary Emmeline Villar, Camille Villar and grandchildren Emma Therese and Tristan, the family sang and played with the kids in the annual gift-giving affair hosted by the Villar SIPAG (Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance). “We are very happy to have spent this special time with the kids,” Senate President Villar said as he watched kids, aged 2 to 13 years old, enjoy the Christmas Village set up at the 100-hectare Crosswinds community in Tagaytay. Cynthia Villar was awarded an honorary doctorate by the country’s premiere school in agricultural studies during the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) 46th Commencement Exercises held at D.L. Umali Freedom Park, UPLB. Villar, chairperson of the Senate Committees on Agriculture and Food and on Environment and Natural Resources, was recognized by the UP Board of Regents for her achievements in the fields of agricultural development, poverty alleviation, education and upholding the welfare of women and children. During its soft opening recently, Senator Cynthia Villar welcomed guests to the elegant Havana Club whose ambiance is inspired by her family's visit to Cuba many years ago. Dazzling lanterns shine in Las Pinas City's 12th Parol Festival

WITH only a few days left before Christmas, Las Pinas residents once again showcased their creative whiz with their amazing giant lanterns for the 12th Parol Festival, now an annual event in the city and eagerly participated in by Las Pineros. Participating parols in the festival were made with recycled materials and followed the required 8 ft x 8 ft size. The Parol Festival was a brainchild of Sen. Cynthia A. Villar SIPAG honors 21 cooperatives for poverty cut

TWENTY-ONE outstanding cooperatives nationwide were recognized by the Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (SIPAG) of Sen. Cynthia A. Villar, former Senate President Manny Villar and DPWH Sec. Mark Villar, for their exemplary poverty reduction strategies. Each of the cooperatives received P250,000 as seed money to start a new business or expand their existing projects and customized Villar SIPAG bamboo trophy specially made by the Samahan ng mga Mang-uukit ng Paete. The awarding ceremony was held at the VIillar SIPAG hall at C5 Extension Road, Brgy. Pulanglupa Uno, Las Pinas City.
