Villar bats for home gardening

Sen. Cynthia A. Villar led the  opening of the 13th Agricrops Production Training program at Villar SIPAG Farm School in Bacoor, Cavite recently. The senator, chair of the Senate agriculture and food committee, said gardens may become the principal source of food in case of typhoons,  volcanic eruption and other calamities. Villar was joined in the event by Crisanto Boysie Sabino, East West Seed Foundation Inc.  Executive Director; Ma. Elema Van Tooren, East West Seed Foundation Inc. managing director; and Maj. Teason Rosario,  Las Pinas City Station Community Affair and Development Section.

10 outstanding groups feted in 2nd Villar SIPAG Youth awards

The Villar SIPAG (Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance) Foundation has again acknowledged the important role of the youth sector in significantly reducing poverty in the country and improving the lives of many poor families. Sen. Cynthia Villar leads livelihood caravan in Tondo

Villar, together with representatives of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Bureau of Soil and Water Management, Metro Manila Development Authority under its Chairman Danny Lim, and Department of Public Works and Highways  led another livelihood and clean-up caravan in Baseco, Tondo on February 7. Sen. Cynthia Villar lauds partners in Manila Bay clean up

Sen. Cynthia Villar lauded the flourishing partnership between private and public organizations to clean and protect Manila Bay on the occasion of the celebration of January as Zero Waste Month. Villar, chairperson of the committee on environment and natural resources, made this statement during the clean-up activity of the Manila Bay Sunset Partnership Program Inc. (MBSPPI) at the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park. “Obviously, our waste problem has reached alarming levels that government efforts are not enough to clear our coastal areas of plastic debris. This now calls for a concerted effort between public and private organizations to significantly reduce wastes,” Villar said. Villar also cited a University of Georgia study showing that the Philippines ranked third, next to China and Indonesia, among 192 countries surveyed, in terms of estimated volume of mismanaged plastic wastes that could potentially enter the bodies of water. Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who succeeded in their ventures in agriculture take center stage during the 7th OFW and Family Summit held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. Senator Cynthia Villar, chairperson of the Committee on Agriculture and Food and director of the organization behind the annual holding of the summit, Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG), said summit attendees were inspired by the experiences shared by agriculture entrepreneurs or agri-preneurs. “Our ultimate dream is to see the day when our kababayans are no longer compelled by lack of local opportunities to work abroad and leave their loved ones behind. With various opportunities sprouting from agriculture, that dream could become a reality sooner than we all think,” Villar said.
