Villar SIPAG honors 11 outstanding youth groups

The Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG) through its program, the Villar SIPAG Awards, honored today 11 groups that emerged as Most Outstanding Youth Social Enterprises at ceremonies held at the Villar SIPAG Hall in Las Pinas City. Sen. Cynthia Villar, director of Villar SIPAG, said the program is her “family’s way of recognizing the efforts of the youth in creating positive change in our society.” “This is our way of supporting empowerment of our young people with the hope of further encouraging them and also inspiring others to significantly contribute to our goals as a nation,” Villar said. Villar: Wetland center to educate youth on conservation

Sen. Cynthia Villar has announced the rise of a wetland center that will help educate students on the importance of wetland and wildlife conservation. During the photo exhibit showcasing the work of wild bird photographer Ed Santos at Solaire in Paranaque, Villar said a wetland center will be built at the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park before the end of the year. “Soon, our students will have another reason to frequent the park, not only for clean up and tree-planting activities, they will also have the wetland center to help them understand more why wetlands are important,” Villar said. The chairperson of the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources also stressed that the conservation of wetlands like the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park, is a strategy to mitigate the effects of climate change. “For one, natural features of wetlands such as mangrove trees serve as barriers that protect communities against storm surges and flooding,” Villar added. Nadine Bornilla impresses listeners of TV5 radio show

Reigning Miss Philippine Youth Simone Nadine Bornilla was rather nervous when she gave her pieces of advice to some pressing problems facing the youth these days but she passed it with flying colors. During her stint on the popular radio show called "Relasyon" aired daily from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on 92.3 FM, broadcaster Atty. Mel Sta. Maria was simply impressed at Nadine and gave her a thumbs-up sign for being eloquent and sensitive to the issues of teenagers. "I'm really nervous!" Nadine laughs during a pep talk prior to the radio program. Later, she tackled raging issues on teenage pregnancy, drug addiction, bullying, peer pressure, relationships, etc. Nadine, 15, adds: "The night before the show, I discussed the issues confronting the youth with my parents. The Villar SIPAG (Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance) Foundation has again acknowledged the important role of the youth sector in significantly reducing poverty in the country and improving the lives of many poor families.
