UP athlete wins Mr. World Philippines 2018

An athlete-model who just graduated from the University of the Philippines (UP) in Diliman, Quezon City was crowned Mr. World Philippines 2018 during a pageant held at the Resorts World Manila in Pasay City Oct. 23. Jody Baines "JB" Saliba, 25, of Olongapo City, edged out 15 other male candidates to represent the country in the Mr. World contest which will be held in Manila in March 2019. Saliba graduated with a degree in sports science from UP last July. He played for the UP Maroons Baseball Team when he was still in school. He says he loves sports and has been an athlete since he was six years old. Saliba also loves dogs, wakeboarding, baseball, swimming, and golf. The eldest and the only male among five children, Saliba is an upcoming movie star and a former contestant of the reality show Amazing Race Philippines Season 2. Miss Philippines Michele Theresa Gumabao won two special awards at the finals of Miss Globe 2018 beauty pageant held in Tirana, Albania Sunday night Oct. 21 (Monday in Manila). Gumabao, 25, won Miss Dream Girl of the World and Miss Social Media special awards. She also finished in the Top 15. "Congratulations to our very own Michele Teresa Gumabao on your Top 15 finish and for winning the Miss Social Media Award and The Miss Dream Girl of the World award! Mabuhay ang Binibining Pilipinas!" according to a statement by the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc., organizer of the annual national pageant. Gumabao is a former member of the De La Salle University Lady Spikers women's volleyball team. She is also the camp director of the Alaska Volleyball Powercamp. Asia's social media sensation Mader Sitang of Thailand, known for her hair-flipping moves, wraps up her four-day visit to Manila today, Oct. 22, as she vows to come back soon. Wilbert Tolentino, Mr. Gay World-Philippines 2009, also a former national director; and Web Marketers Specialist Association of the Philippines, Inc. (WEMSAP) founder and President, reveals that he has received so many requests and inquiries on how they can avail of the services of Mader Sitang for their shows and programs. Tolentino says he hasn't approved any of these requests or proposals. He will check each and everyone of these requests and inquiries after Mader Sitang has completed her Manila tour. Residents of Lebak in Sultan Kudarat cheered as the motorcade of newly crowned Miss Asia Pacific International Sharifa Akeel made its way along the roads of this coastal municipality in Mindanao on October 21. This was the first time that the new Filipino beauty queen came to her hometown after winning an international crown last Oct. 5. Prior to that, Sharifa earned the right to represent the Philippines in the international competition when she won Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific 2018 last Sept. 16. After the motorcade, it was home sweet home for the 21-year-old beauty queen. Miss Philippines Ma. Ahtisa Manalo is now enjoying the sights in Japan as she gains new friends at the Miss International 2018 beauty contest on-going in Tokyo. Manalo, 21, is aiming to be the 7th Miss International title holder from the Philippines. Other Filipinas who have won in the 58-year-old pageant were Gemma Cruz (1964), Aurora Pijuan (1970), Melanie Marquez (1979), Precious Lara Quigaman (2005), Bea Rose Santiago (2013) and Kylie Verzosa (2016).
