Villar vows to continue work for more livelihood opportunities

After dominating the Senate race with more than 25 million votes, Sen. Cynthia Villar was formally proclaimed as a duly-elected Senator in the May 13 midterm elections. Based on the votes officially tallied by the Commission on Elections en banc sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, Villar led the 12 candidates for senator who got the biggest number of votes. "I am very thankful for this opportunity to continue serving our people as a senator. Makakaasa po ang ating mga kababayan na sulit ang tiwala na binigay nila sa akin,” Villar said. Kris Aquino: Filipinos deserve healthy public servants

Movie and television personality Kris Aquino said she is having second thoughts about pursuing a career in politics, saying she is unfit to run because of her health. "What I have is not curable. I have accepted that. It has no cure. You have to deal with all the symptoms and you can deal with everything that goes with it," said Kris, during a press conference in support of the candidacy of Sen. Bam Aquino who is seeking Senate re-election during a press conference held in Quezon City April 22.  Timi Aquino, wife of Bam, also expressed the candidacy of her husband. Urban agriculture is a viable intervention to make poor households and communities healthier and more food sufficient, Sen. Cynthia A. Villar has said. Villar, who is the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, notes how the spiraling prices of food and other commodities have made life more difficult for families in poor urban communities. In urban communities where living spaces are cramped and land use is limited, Villar said households can practice urban gardening and plant vegetables in small pots and empty plastic containers to have their own vegetable gardens for their family's supply of nutritious greens.
