Dodj Mallari embarks on musical journey
Rising Kapamilya star Dodj Mallari has embarked on a singing career as he heads to a recording studio for his debut CD.
"Naka-record na ako ng tatlong kanta. We will have 10 songs for my first CD. Hopefully, the full CD will be out second quarter of next year," said Mallari, during an exclusive interview for the soft launch of ''Christmas Parade by The Bay" held at Salu Restaurant in Quezon City recently.
Mallari said that the three finished songs will be initially heard during a concert entitled "Walang Kokontra-Bida" on November 25.
"Doon nila unang maririnig 'yung tatlong recorded songs ko. I am recording under MCA Universal Records," he said. In fact, Mallari is also thrilled for his upcoming CD because former actress-turned-restaurateur Harlene Bautista has promised to lend him an original song she composed.
Mallari, 32, was introduced in the 2016 Kapamilya teleserye "Magpahanggang Wakas" where he played the best friend of actress Arci Munoz.
Starting this year, Mallari will be busy with four ABS-CBN projects starting off with a stint on the popular teleserye "La Luna Sangre" which stars Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo.
"Kapitbahay ako rito ni Daniel (Padilla). Lalabas din ako sa 'Barangay Tatay.' Ibabalik ng ABS CBN ang comedy at si Vandolph naman ang bida rito. Then 'yung isang TV series na 'On The Job,' matagal na ring tapos yun. Any time pwede na rin ipalabas. Reporter naman ang role ko dito sa serye na ito," said Mallari, who is also being managed by RALF Advertising and Events Management.
In spite of a flourishing career on television, Mallari said that singing his really his passion.
"Hilig ko talaga ang kumanta. Wala pa ako sa showbiz kumakanta na talaga ako. According to my musical arranger, ang range ng voice ko is mid-to-high tempo. So mataas ang boses ko. Parang tipong Erik Santos," said Mallari.
Given the chance, Mallari said he would love to delve into acoustics. "Nasa acoustics lang talaga ang gusto ko. Pero with my personality which is funny and lively, mga masayang songs daw ang bagay sa akin."
At the concert "Walang Kokontra-Bida," Mallari will be joined in by several Kapamilya stars.
"Pinagsama-sama rito yung mga sidekicks and 'yung mga artistang hindi gaanong nabibigyan ng ilaw ng ABS CBN. Noong una, gusto namin parang 'Glee' or 'High School Musical' ang concept. Medyo intellectual type of comedy ang show namin," he actor said.
Mallari said that he is not worried that the masa will not appreciate the concert because of its intellectual nature.
"Hindi naman kami nag-target ng masa pero sa show namin, walang murahan o bastusan pero nakakatawa s'ya," he said.
Mallari said that he is only hoping for the best for this upcoming musical show.
"Mag-i-invite kami ng mga executives from ABS CBN. Hopefully, magkarun ng repeat ito sa bigger venue and magkarun ng din ng provincial tours," he said. - ROBERT REQUINTINA
