Filipinos in Japan stage 'Noah's Ark Fashion Show' on Sept. 13

A fashion show organized by Filipinos which aims to give livelihood and help the sick will be held at the Sky Hall of Haneda International Airport in Tokyo, Japan on Friday, Sept. 13. Dubbed "Noah's Ark Fashion Show," the event is organized by 1 PASSION 4 FASHION (1D4F) Group which will gather designers, sewers (dressmakers), models and talented people to help others turn their dreams into reality. 1P4F was founded by designer Mae Pontanares. She was a cancer survivor who made her mission to do fashion shows to help the needy. Last year, the same show then entitled "Garden of Eden" produced by the organization was held at the Tokyo Tower. Ahtisa Manalo: What she wants for Christmas

Miss International 2018 first-runner up Maria Ahtisa Manalo has only one wish for herself this holiday season: get enough rest. When asked about the gift she wanted for Christmas, Manalo said: "Yung gift sa sarili ko hindi ko pa naibibigay which is rest. Bago ako umalis, I was busy already. In Japan full-packed 'yung schedule namin for one month. We rarely get some sweet time also." "When I got back here, wala pa rin rest. I really just wanted to rest. But that the best gift I can give to myself," says Manalo. Throughout the finals night of the Miss International 2018 pageant held in Japan, Manalo was confident but relaxed on stage. Ahtisa Manalo, who finished second in the Miss International 2018 beauty pageant held in Tokyo, Japan last Nov. 9, says that she is dedicating her pageant victory to the Filipinos around the world. "Pilipinas Kong Mahal, binigay ko lahat para sa iyo, lahat lahat. Philippines, you were my motivation every step of the way, " Manalo says on Instagram on Nov. 11. She adds: " My crown and my wholehearted thanks goes to: The Filipinos, all over the world, for the love and support. Japanese DJ Rapper King Tomoro is in the house! Just recently, King Tomoro visited Manila to seek musical opportunities and possibly collaborate with some of our local artists. "I first came here in your country April this year. Since then,  I always look forward to come back because I learned to love your people and its climate which is similar to my place back in Japan and also to share my music to all party goers," says King Tomoro during a meet-and-greet event with the media at Sekitori Japanese Restaurant in Mandaluyong City. Miss Philippines Ma. Ahtisa Manalo is now enjoying the sights in Japan as she gains new friends at the Miss International 2018 beauty contest on-going in Tokyo. Manalo, 21, is aiming to be the 7th Miss International title holder from the Philippines. Other Filipinas who have won in the 58-year-old pageant were Gemma Cruz (1964), Aurora Pijuan (1970), Melanie Marquez (1979), Precious Lara Quigaman (2005), Bea Rose Santiago (2013) and Kylie Verzosa (2016). In one of her latest Instagram posts, Manalo shared a photo of her roommate in the pageant. She wrote:  "Meet my new roommate for the whole Miss International activities, Martha! Philippine Independent Film Festival tackles LGBTQ issues

The Philippine Independent Film Festival, an allied festival of EIGASAI since 2016, had a screening and panel discussion on issues surrounding LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer), minorities, and the importance of inclusion at Cinematheque Centre Manila last August 5. The event is in collaboration with a project of the Japan Foundation Asia Center: EYES for Embracing Diversity, geared towards practitioners, researchers, and educators in the Southeast Asian regions and Japan who have been striving to create a diverse and inclusive society. This is co-organized by the Philippine LGBT Chamber of Commerce (PLCC), and the Film Development Council of the Philippines. The film "Of Love & Law" was screened during the Philippine film festival. Say oishi at Okonomiyaki Chibo Japanese Restaurant

Obviously, there's no shrimp or vegetable tempura at the Okonomiyki Chibo Restaurant located at the 5th level of the Podium at Ortigas in Mandaluyong City. What they have is the delightful fusion of teppanyaki and okonomiyaki. For those of you who are not familiar with Japanese dishes, teppanyaki is a style of Japanese cuisine that uses iron griddle to cook food. Okonomiyaki simply refers to Japanese pancakes. In the Philippines, the first branch of Okonomiyaki Chibo opened at S Maison at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City in June 2016. Two years later, the second branch opened at the Podium. "At the S Maison branch, we have cooking tables there. Whereas here at the Podium, we only have the usual tables here because our customers here are fast-paced.
