Anderson Cooper gets support from Twitter after Las Vegas mayor interview

Image
Anderson Cooper was not willing to cede any ground when it came to an interview with Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman on Wednesday, and the confrontational interview has drawn a lot of attention. Mayor Goodman joined Anderson Cooper 360 via video chat, and spoke with the newsman about her recent call to reopen Las Vegas, despite the ongoing coronavirus crisis. Goodman -- who has been vocal about her opposition to the stay-at-home order issued by Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak -- said her concerns revolved around the economic impact of the social distancing mandates, which included the closure of all non-essential businesses. "I want our restaurants open, I want our small businesses open, I want our people back in employment,” Goodman said on CNN Wednesday. “We have so many families that can’t even afford to get the groceries for their family because they’ve been out of work for six weeks." Goodman and Cooper exchanged pointed comments as the Mayor made arguments aga...

A new Miss Universe will be crowned on November 26, as the annual international beauty pageant comes to The Axis theater at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas. And since Sin City is playing host, it’s only natural to break down the betting odds on who will be crowned Miss Universe 2017. At the top of the board is “Miss South Africa” Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters at +250, followed closely by “Miss Thailand” Maria Poonlertlarp at +300, according to Covers.com, a sports betting website based in Ireland. Miss South Africa won her title under controversy, after fellow contestants stated that she had a “special relationship” with two judges and received preferential treatment during the national competition. While she is the betting favorite, it’s always nice to have a bad guy to root against. Behind those front-runners are Miss Philippines at +600, Miss Colombia at +800, and Miss Venezuela and Miss USA, both at +1,100 odds. Could the home-field advantage give current “Miss USA” Kára McCu...

Five-time Emmy Award winner Steve Harvey will host the three-hour show which will broadcast live from The Axis at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, the same venue where Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines was crowned. Iris Mittenaere from France will crown her successor at the conclusion of the show. Rachel Peters is the country's representative to the pageant. It would be recalled that the Miss Universe Organization offered to the Philippines to stage the pageant for the second time in a row. The 2016 Miss Universe beauty contest was held in Manila last January 30. But in June, Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo said that the Miss Universe contest will not be happening in the Philippines.
