Teen queens to new bets: Be yourself, share advocacies

Two teen queens of Miss Philippines Youth beauty pageant shared their pieces of advice to the incoming candidates of the teen competition as they encouraged them to be themselves and share their advocacies. "As what I keep on telling them during our events, just be yourself and always  do things from the heart. Sincerity is important not only in the pageant but also in our life," said Rikki Mae dela Pena, reigning Miss Philippine Youth, during an interview. Simone Nadine Bornilla, the first Miss Philippine Youth titleholder, encouraged the girls to share their advocacies to the world. Nadine Bornilla shines in Miss Teen Int'l 2018 pageant

Miss Philippines Simone Nadine Bornilla may not have won the crown at Miss Teen International 2018 but she made her country proud when she won two special awards during the finals held in India recently. Bornilla, 15, an aspiring surgeon, won Miss Teen International Asia and Oceania and Best In National Costume. Miss Mexico was named Miss Teen International 2018. The runners-up were Miss India, 1st runner-up; and Miss Venezuela, 2nd runner-up. Bornilla, who is the reigning Miss Philippine Youth, thanked her supporters in her journey to the international pageant. "PHILIPPINES! I was so happy to be wearing your sash tonight. I know we didn’t get this far as we wanted to be, but I do hope that I made you all proud," says the teen queen. Nadine Bornilla is PH bet to Miss Teen Int'l 2018 pageant

Fifteen-year-old Simone Nadine Bornilla will be the country's representative to the Miss Teen International contest which will be held in New Delhi, India on Dec. 19. Bornilla is a Grade 10 student of Colegio San Agustin in Makati City. Last Jan. 5, she represented Makati City in the Mr. and Ms. Philippines Youth contest. Nadine, as fondly called by her peers, loves to sing. In fact, she is a Senior Soprano 1 member of the prestigious Augustinian Singers of Colegio San Agustin-Makati. Her talent in singing blossomed following her summer training workshops at Spotlight Artist Centre under the supervision of Isay Alvarez. She also attended ballet classes when she was 8 at Ballet Manila under the supervision of Lisa Macuja. Also, she is a theater actress and regular attendee of The Repertory Philippines Summer Workshops for the past seven years. Reigning Miss Philippine Youth Simone Nadine Bornilla was rather nervous when she gave her pieces of advice to some pressing problems facing the youth these days but she passed it with flying colors. During her stint on the popular radio show called "Relasyon" aired daily from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on 92.3 FM, broadcaster Atty. Mel Sta. Maria was simply impressed at Nadine and gave her a thumbs-up sign for being eloquent and sensitive to the issues of teenagers. "I'm really nervous!" Nadine laughs during a pep talk prior to the radio program. Later, she tackled raging issues on teenage pregnancy, drug addiction, bullying, peer pressure, relationships, etc. Nadine, 15, adds: "The night before the show, I discussed the issues confronting the youth with my parents. Aside from school (Colegio San Agustin - Makati), judging local beauty pageants, modelling, and preparing for the screening of Miss Philippines Youth contest, Nadine is the brand ambassador of BAYONGciaga, a proudly Philippine-made, hand-woven bag that provides sustainable income to communities of bayong weavers. Miss Philippine Youth 2018 Nadine Bornilla is one of those young people who has nothing but admiration for Makati City Mayor Abigail "Abby" Binay. During her courtesy call to the mayor's office last Feb. 5, Bornilla thanked Binay for supporting the youth of Makati City. Bornilla, 15, presented a plaque of appreciation to Mayor Binay. She also met Makati City Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo. "Thank you so much for everything that you have done for the youth of Makati," Bornilla said. She was accompanied by her father Dr. Jumel V.
