New beauty queen to fight bullying, body-shaming

A 20-year-old student who vows to campaign against bullying and depression has been crowned Miss Philippine Youth International 2019. Rikki Mae Abuel dela Pena, who studies at the University of Asia and the Pacific in Pasig City, said that she wants to bridge the experts and fellow millennials who have been victimized by bullying, depression and body-shaming. "I want to build this community where I can bridge the experts and the victims of bullying, depression and body-shaming," said Dela Pena during a victory press conference held at a hotel in Quezon City recently. Dela Pena said that she is also passionate about building relationships with other people through charity works. Just recently, she created her fund-raising page for World Vision Organization which aims to support the educational programs in the country. Wider coverage for benefits on mental health pushed

Senator Risa Hontiveros and former Miss International Kylie Verzosa led the campaign to boost mental health awareness as they call on health maintenance organizations (HMOs) to provide wider coverage on benefits dealing with mental health. "There is an encouragement in the mental health law that calls for HMOs to include and expand specific mental health conditions," says Hontiveros, who was guest of honor, during the Mental Health Matters Fair held at Crown Spaces, a co-working and event space, in Makati City August 18. Hontiveros adds: "There are human resources directors who tell me that they are really hesitant to hire people with mental condition not just in the schools, not just in our families, not just in government but also in the workplace and private sector. OPM singer Jed Madela has admitted that there was a point in his career that he wanted to give up because he thought he felt "irrelevant." "There was a point I kinda felt irrelevant. I kinda felt insignificant. Ang daming naglalabasang bago, ang daming naglalabasan na mas magaling, mas nakakagat ng audience," said Madela, during an interview on "Tonight With Boy Abunda" on ABS CBN. Kapamilya star Nadine Lustre has called on the people to stop posting photos or images of her at the wake of her brother who reportedly committed suicide. "Hi. May I request to please refrain from posting/and reposting photos and videos of me from the funeral. "Let's give respect. This is for everyone. Thank you," said Lustre on her Facebook. Earlier, Lustre posted a cryptic message on FB following the death of his teenage brother Isaiah Lustre last Oct. 7. Isaiah was rushed to the Pacific Global Medical Center but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
