Sen. Cynthia Villar led the groundbreaking ceremonies which sets into motion the construction of the Wetland Center at the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park. The groundbreaking also marks World Wetlands Day, an annual celebration held on February 2 to commemorate the day the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands was adopted in 1971. This year’s theme is Wetlands and Climate Change. “It is only fitting that we mark this special day with the groundbreaking for the facility that will make visiting the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park, the only Ramsar site in the country situated in an urban setting, more convenient and educational,” Villar said. A 20-year-old student who vows to campaign against bullying and depression has been crowned Miss Philippine Youth International 2019. Rikki Mae Abuel dela Pena, who studies at the University of Asia and the Pacific in Pasig City, said that she wants to bridge the experts and fellow millennials who have been victimized by bullying, depression and body-shaming. "I want to build this community where I can bridge the experts and the victims of bullying, depression and body-shaming," said Dela Pena during a victory press conference held at a hotel in Quezon City recently.
