Do you have what it takes to be the first Miss Econest?
A nationwide search for the most beautiful and intelligent women who will serve as ambassador for promoting environmental awareness, especially in the area of proper solid waste management, has been launched in Quezon City recently.
Dubbed Miss Econest 2018 contest, the pageant is organized and promoted by Econest Waste Management Corporation, the private partner of the local government of Hermosa, Bataan, for the rehabilitation, operation and expansion of the Hermosa Sanitary Landfill Facility.
"The pageant is not only to find beauty and brains among millions of Filipinas but someone with a big heart for environmental protection and humanity as a whole," says lawyer Coeli Fiel, president and CEO of Econest and over-all pageant chairperson, during the pageant's launch.
The Miss Econest 2018 pageant is open to all single Filipino females who are: 18-27 years old, 5'3 tall, with beauty, brains and a heart for the environment, with pleasing personality and good moral character.
Also present at the launch were Atty. Riza Lumbera, head, finance committee; Atty. Sos Sian, head, Secretariat and Overall Logistics and Operations; Atty. Jui Tongco, head, creatives; Estien Quijano, director, fashion and style; and Concon Sinel, fashion director.
Part of its advocacy is to promote awareness on proper solid waste management as an entry point for sustainable development, she says.
Asked to differentiate the contest with Miss Philippines Earth, Fiel says: "Basically the Miss Earth pageant is generally for all the areas of environmental protection and environmental conservation measures while Miss Econest is solely for proper solid waste management as an entry point for sustainable development."
Quijano says: "Actually we want to tie up with Miss Philippines Earth. We will find a way.Who knows? This girl might win Miss Philippines Earth."
Fiel adds that part of the proceeds of the pageant will go to the proposed Ecoguardians Foundation, a non-stock, non-profit organization, of volunteers from different sectors including senior citizens, youth, solo parents, persons with disabilities, barangay health workers, farmers, fishers and the like.
Econest also plans to set up a shelter for abused women and children within the premises of Hermosa Sanitary Landfill Facility, with skills training on recycling and upcycling waste materials as an entry point for rehabilitation and therapy for victims of domestic abuse, bullying and human trafficking.
Over P200,000 in cash and other prizes are at stake for the grand winner. The coronation night will be held at the Subic Convention Center in Zambales on October 28. - ROBERT REQUINTINA
