Las Pinas City celebrates 14th Waterlily festival



Las Pinas City’s rich cultural heritage took centerstage once again in the celebration of the 14th Waterlily Festival.
Sen. Cynthia Villar, who started the holding of the festivities in 2006, said the festival through the years,  has served the purpose of being the show window for the city’s most talented performers and the most beautiful and creative people.
“We are very proud of this festival which we also hold to express our commitment for a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature and the environment,” Villar said.
The yearly festivity was participated in by more than 2,000 attendees and many more tourists and spectators coming from nearby areas.
Among the activities lined up for the occasion was the coronation of Miss Las Pinas Waterlily 2019 at Villar Sipag Complex where Mikaela Grace Salcedo of Barangay Pamplona 3 took home the crown and the P25,000 cash prize. Judged as First Runner up and winner of P15,000 cash was Nicole Beatrice Catabay of Barangay Talon 2; and Second Runner up and winner of 10,000 cash prize was Marian Angela Dela Pena of Barangay Pamplona. People’s Choice awardee was  Mikee Valerio of Bgy. Manuyo 1.



The winners of this pageant were judged according to physical beauty, intelligence and overall uniqueness and creativity of waterlily gown. Candidates were also chosen for their communication skills and involvement in community service.
Candidates representing the different barangays were required to wear decent cut mestiza terno made of 100% waterlily.
In the inter-school street dancing competition, the group composed of students from Las Piñas North National High School, Las Piñas City Science High School and Las Piñas City Technical Vocational High School emerged as the champion and took home the P50,000 cash prize. The first runner up and winner of P30,000 cash prize was Las Piñas East National High School, Las Piñas East National High School Talon 4 Annex and Las Piñas East National High School Equitable Village. The Second Runner-up and winner of P20,000 cash prize was the group of CAA National High School and CAA National High School Annex. Winners of this competition were judged according to their water lily costume and props, choreography and technicalities.
The festival also featured a water lily product exhibit of enterprises coming from Laguna and Rizal.
