Catriona Gray arrives in New York City, begins Miss U reign

Miss Universe Catriona Gray finally arrived in New York City last Jan. 3 after she secretly spent the holidays in the Philippines last month. Upon her arrival at the John F. Kennedy International Airport, the Filipino-Australian beauty queen was mobbed by supporters and mediamen who wanted to interview her. She was met there by representatives from the Miss Universe Organization. Pageant fans were still amazed at how Gray secretly stayed away from the limelight during her holiday vacation in Manila for 15 days. But her friends said that Gray deserved a quiet moment when she celebrated Christmas and New Year in Manila with her family and loved ones. Newly crowned Miss Universe Catriona Gray flew to New York City last Dec. 20 to start her reign for the most prestigious beauty pageant. This as Gray's Instagram followers have already reached more than three million just three days after she won the crown. "How I'm feeling now that there's 3MILLION of you on this journey!" says Gray on IG. Few days before the coronation night last Dec. 17, the number of her followers was only 800,000. Before she left the country, Gray would attend a private charity function in Metro Manila. As soon as she arrives in The Big Apple, Gray will do a series of press tours where she will make guest appearances on popular American radio and television shows and sit in on print interviews. Last Dec. 19, architect Richelle Singson-Michael, daughter of former Gov. Newly crowned Miss Universe Catriona Gray is expected to move into her lavish New York City apartment few days from now to begin her reign. This after she was crowned 67th Miss Universe during a worldwide telecast of the beauty pageant from Bangkok, Thailand last Dec. 17. The new apartment, which will also come with a year-long salary as Miss Universe and living expenses, is a part of her prize package. 2017 Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel Peters has already moved out of the luxurious apartment after she packed up in November. Gray, 24, is also expected to haircare products, shoes and accessories for prizes.  She will also receive dermatology and skincare services, professional health and nutrition consultation, dental services and extensive travel representing sponsors and charitable partners, and access to various events including casting opportunities, movie premiers, screenings, Broadway shows and launch parties. Following her disastrous performance at the New Year's Eve ball in New York City in 2016, Mariah Carey will take the stage once again and determined to put on a good show at the Times Square. "We can all agree that last year didn't go exactly as planned and we are thrilled to move forward together to provide America with an incredible night of music and celebration on 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2018,'" the statement read. "See you in Times Square!" Carey has said that in 2016, she was humiliated by technical issues at the annual televised ball-drop. Carey and other special performers will ring in 2018 in what weathermen forecast as the coldest New Year's Eve since 1961. Another Filipino talent has been nominated in this year's Tony Awards which will take place at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City on June 11. Filipino-American Eva Noblezada, 21, earned a nomination for Best Performance by An Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for playing the role of Kim in the revival of the hit musical "Miss Saigon." Now one of the longest-running musicals on Broadway, "Miss Saigon" tells the tragic story of an Asian woman left by her American lover.
