'Peninsula,' follow-up to 'Train to Busan,' soars in Asian box-office

The movie's strong performance in select Asian markets is welcome news for the film business amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis. South Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho’s Peninsula — a follow-up to the 2016 cult zombie action flick Train to Busan — scored $19 million to $20 million in its international debut in a much-needed boost for the box office, according to early industry estimates. That includes more than $13 million to $14 million in South Korea despite capacity limitations and ongoing concerns amid the novel coronavirus. The film also launched over the weekend in four other Asian markets, including Taiwan. While cinemas remain shuttered in the U.S., theaters in many regions overseas are reopening, albeit it with social distancing measures in place such as staggered seating. Hyun Bin to star in new movie

Korean actor Hyun Bin, star of the blockbuster Netflix series "Crash Landing On You," is set to star in a new movie called "Bargaining," it was announced on his official Facebook page. Hyun will appear in the new film opposite Hwang Jung Min. The two actors will start filming some scenes in Korea in April. Report said that the production of the movie was originally planned to be shot in Jordan by the end of March but had to cancel due to travel ban related to COVID-19.  The shooting abroad will be arranged later. - Robert Requintina

Hyun Bin donates 200 million Korean won in fight vs Covid-19

Actor Hyun Bin was reported to have donated 200,000,000 won (P8.2 million) to the fight against coronavirus (Covid-19) in South Korea. A report by Koreaboo.com said that Hyun secretly donated to the Community Chest of Korea, a non-profit organization. Hyun's agency said that it is not aware of the actor's donation. Reports said that the "Crash Landing On You" actor even requested the organization to keep quiet about it until he wrote a letter on Instagram. He wrote a letter on Instagram about the sorry state of coronavirus in South Korea. It was written in Korean and was later translated in English. K-pop boy band BTS has submitted entries for the 2019 Grammy Awards which will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on Feb. 10. Considered as the highest award in music, the nominations for the 2019 show will be announced on Dec. 5, 2018. BTS has reportedly submitted six entries for their best-selling album "Love Yourself: Tear" and for the song "Fake Love." Entries for “Fake Love” include Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop/Duo Group Performance and Best Music Video.  For “Love Yourself: Tear,” the entries are Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. It would be recalled that K-pop made history in the American music scene after "Love Yourself: Tear" went to No. 1 on the Billboard music charts for the week ending on June 2. BTS makes history in US music charts

K-pop makes history in the American music scene after the BTS album "Love Yourself: Tear" went to No. 1 on the Billboard music charts for the week ending on June 2. This is the first time that a Korean album finished at the summit of the prestigious music charts since it published its first music hit parade in the US in 1936. Released through BitHit Entertainment on May 18, the album launches with 135,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending May 24, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 100,000 were in traditional album sales, according to Billboard Magazine. BTS has also achieved several firsts with their international success in music. Aside from being the first K-pop album to hit No. 1, it is also the biggest unit and sales week ever for K-Pop, first foreign language No. 1 album since 2006, first World Music Album at No. 1 on Billboard 200, and Second-Biggest Week for A Group in 2018. The inaugural Jewel of the World beauty pageant, an international contest that celebrates cultural diversity, kicked off in the historic city of Malolos in Bulacan over the weekend. Miss Philippines Chanel Olive Thomas is living up to the title of Miss Friendship after she and some candidates rushed to Miss Peru who passed out while the winners for the Miss Supranational 2017 pageant were being announced live in Poland last Dec. 1 (Dec. 2 Manila time). The viral footage was not seen on television but several pageant fans who watched the show in Poland live recorded the incident through their cellphones and uploaded it on social media. In the video, Miss Peru Lesly Reyna fainted while the hosts were about to announce the winners of the competition. When Miss Peru passed out, some of the girls, including Thomas, helped her and brought her to an area near the backstage. Thomas stood a bit far from the commotion when she ran to the girls. Gabby Concepcion hopes to work with Marian Rivera

Kapuso star Gabby Concepcion has said that he hopes to work with Marian Rivera in a future project for GMA 7.
