It seems like the Miss World Philippines beauty contest is living up to its new title as pageant of the stars. This after three showbiz personalities enlisted for the screening of Miss World Philippines 2019 beauty pageant. Now under the helm of talent manager Arnold Vegafria, the past years saw upcoming movie and television stars screened for the Miss World Philippines contest and successfully made it. Actress Megan Lynne Young represented the Philippines in Miss World 2013 and went on to become the first Filipina to win the elusive blue crown. Actress Teresita 'Winwyn" Marquez, daughter of showbiz personalities Alma Moreno and Joey Marquez, notched the country's first Reina Hispanoamericana crown in Bolivia in 2017. Alyssa Muhlach, daughter of Almira Muhlach and former PBA star Bong Alvarez, also competed in Reina Hispanoamericana pageant in 2018. Western Visayas top cop bats for drug-free province

Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, Police Regional Office-6 director, has vowed to continue its intensified campaign on illegal drugs without let-up in Bacolod and Negros Occidental. This after some  P23,180,153 worth of shabu was confiscated in Western Visayas based on data from the regional office from June 27 to July 27 this year. Of which, the bulk of shabu came from Negros Occidental (P13.8 million), Bacolod City (P9.2 million), and  P162,653 worth of shabu were seized from the provinces of Aklan, Iloilo, Antique, Guimaras, and Capiz. This is a big achievement considering that Pamuspusan only started his two-year tour of duty last June 27. “Expect more confiscations. Bacolod City and Negros Occidental are the focus of our operation,” said Police Lieutenant Joem Malong, spokesperson of PRO-6. Las Pinas City celebrates 14th Waterlily festival

Las Pinas City’s rich cultural heritage took centerstage once again in the celebration of the 14th Waterlily Festival. Sen. Cynthia Villar, who started the holding of the festivities in 2006, said the festival through the years,  has served the purpose of being the show window for the city’s most talented performers and the most beautiful and creative people. “We are very proud of this festival which we also hold to express our commitment for a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature and the environment,” Villar said. The yearly festivity was participated in by more than 2,000 attendees and many more tourists and spectators coming from nearby areas. Among the activities lined up for the occasion was the coronation of Miss Las Pinas Waterlily 2019 at Villar Sipag Complex where Mikaela Grace Salcedo of Barangay Pamplona 3 took home the crown and the P25,000 cash prize.
