Smart, Binibining Pilipinas open historic online fan voting

For the first time in the history of the Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant, fans will help a candidate enter the Top 15 semifinals through online voting.

PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications, along with its digital innovations arm Voyager Innovations, powers the SMS and digital fan voting of the Binibining Pilipinas 2017 beauty pageant where the winner of the text votes will automatically enter the Top 15 semifinalists.

"As we saw during the country's hosting of the 65th Miss Universe last January, pageant competitions have become more digital like never before. We're glad that the Binibining Pilipinas 2017 will be putting the power of digital into the hands of millions of Filipino fans this time. We all therefore will be given a chance to vote for our bets, powered by the combined digital technologies of Smart and Voyager," said Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman of PLDT, Smart and Voyager.


Fans only need to send BB<number of candidate> (ex. BB1 to BB40) to 2929022 to cast their votes and support their favorite candidates. Votes will be counted until 9 p.m. of April 30 during the Binibining Pilipinas coronation night.

"This year is extraordinary - from the beauties to the show - and is even more exciting because we are letting people vote for their candidate of choice through technology, a first in the pageant's 54 years," said Stella Marquez Araneta, chair of Binibining Piliinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI), during a press conference held at the Novotel in Cubao, Quezon City on April 26.

Ramon Isberto, Smart Communications Head, Public Affairs and Corporate Communications, said that fans can vote for their favorite candidates an unlimited number of times during the voting period.

"It's very nice that Binibining Pilipinas has now become more interactive. We're looking forward to work with Binibining Pilipinas in a more interactive process," said Isberto.


Aside from voting via SMS, fans also have the chance to pick this year's Most Photogenic Queen by participating in the online voting via the Binibining Pilipinas website www.bbpilipinas.com/vote.

Thanks to freenet-the free Internet platform of Voyager-Smart, TNT and Sun subscribers will have free access to the voting website without data charges by simply downloading the freenet app on their Android or iOS phones.

Forty candidates are competing for the six titles at the Binibining Pilipinas 2017 beauty contest.
