DV Boer Farm Int'l plays Santa to Batangas fishers, jobless

Christmas comes early to fishermen of Barangay Matabungkay in Batangas after the DV Boer Farm International Corporation formally donated some 20 bancas to them during turn over ceremonies held at the Matabungkay Beach Hotel last Nov. 23.

Produced by workers from Barangay Hukain Calatagan, the bancas were part of the 50 "Banca ni DV" to be distributed in Lian, Batangas in line with "Oplan Pamamalakaya," a DVBFI initiative intended to offer profitable and sustainable livelihood opportunities to fishermen, including idle farmers and jobless people who may be interested to be fishers.

The other 30 bancas will be given out soon to fishermen in Barangay San Diego. The bancas have 7.5 horse power measuring 20x27 inches and equipped with life vests, dash camera, paddle, net (lambat pangawil), cooler, compass and flashlight.

"Galing din naman ako sa hirap din. Ako ay isang buhay na patinay sa inyong lahat. Ang kahirapan ay hindi hadlang sa ating mga pangarap. Sa pagunlad natin, na nararapat naman tayong lumingon at saklolohan ang ating mga kababayan na naghihirap. Mga naghihitay din ng pagkakataon," says Dexter Villamin, Chief Executive Officer, DV Boer Farm International Corporation.

Villamin adds: "Ako ang isang pastry chef na naging OFW (overseas Filipino worker). Bagama't hindi nakatapos ng high school, hindi lang para sa sarili kundi nangarap din para sa inyong lahat;

"Hindi man tayo magkakilala sa pangalan, hindi man tayo magkakamag-anak, pero sobra po akong naaawa dun sa mga kababayan natin na nasasayang ang buhay at hindi alam ang gagawin," says Villamin when asked about his advocacy.

Villamin also says that the project aims to make the youth healthy and responsible citizens.

Last Nov. 12, an orientation seminar attended by some 30 fishermen-recipients was held as Villamin shared his advocacy on providing livelihood for fishermen and farmers.

"If you want to produce a successful country, unang una ay dapat malakas ang ating mga kabataan. Paano sila lalaban sa China ng volleyball kung hindi sila pakakainin ng maayos, hindi sila bibigyan ng sapat na nutrisyon? Magiging undersize ang ating mga kabataan. Hindi tayo makakapasok sa world standard ng mga tao," he explains. - ROBERT REQUINTINA
