The staging of the Miss Asia Pacific International (MAPI) 2020 beauty pageant, one of the most enduring beauty contests, has been "suspended until further notice" due to COVID-19. The Miss Asia Pacific International 2019 beauty pageant nears the homestretch as Misses Romania and Dominican Republic entered the semifinals of the prestigious pageant during preliminaries held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City Oct. 5. Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo announced last Jan. 4 that she has resigned as president of the Mutya ng Pilipinas beauty pageant, one of the most enduring and prestigious national beauty contests in the country. In a statement sent to media friends, Hemilyn said: "Maraming maraming salamat po sa lahat ng tulong at pagmamahal na binigay nyo sa Mutya Ng Pilipinas at sa akin especially during our 50th anniversary celebration; "It is with a heavy heart though that I have recently tendered my resignation as President. Miss Brazil Gabriela Palma topped the swimsuit competition of the Miss Asia Pacific International (MAPI) 2018 pre-pageant held in Vigan, Ilocos Sur Sunday. Palma was also proclaimed Miss Safari Hotel and Villas special award. Miss Philippines Sharifa Akeel finished first runner-up in the MAPI pre-pageant competition.
