Janjep Carlos hints at 'complicated lovelife'

Reigning Mr. Gay World Janjep Carlos of the Philippines has said that the international pageant has opened doors for him as he describes his current lovelife as "complicated."

"I am grateful for being Mr. Gay World Philippines and Mr. Gay World because it opened opportunities for me. I am overwhelmed and I still don't know which one to accept because they all look exciting," said Carlos moments before after he passed on his crown to Lenard Kodie Manayac II who was proclaimed Mr. Fahrenheit/Mr. Gay World Philippines at F Club in Quezon City early Sunday morning, Feb. 9.

Asked to describe his present lovelife, Carlos laughed and said: "It's complicated."

Carlos did not give details of his past relationship but he admitted they were having problems. "May problema kami." But the international pageant king said he is happy right now.

"I am happy now because may freedom na ako na ngayon ko lang naramdaman. Freedom na walang limits or boundary. Basta masaya ako ngayon," he said.

Carlos said he is dating a foreigner who is a private person. At the grand finals of the gay-themed Mr. Fahrenheit 2020 contest, Carlos made his public appearance with his new flame Travis James. They also locked lips on stage.

Sought to give advice to people who want to come out as gay, Carlos said: "Based on my experience, if itinatago mo ang pagiging gay mo sa family mo, chances are you will have a hard time to come out na."

"Pero kung bata ka pa lamang at accepted na ng mga taong nakapaligid sa iyo na gay ka, wala ng problem. Madali na ang lahat."

Carlos said that it is never too late for others to come out gay. "You will be happy kasi kapag nag-out ka na. Ibang happiness ang mararamdaman mo. Gumawa siguro sila ng paraan na slowly, mag-come out na sila. Dahan-dahan. And then siguro face the consequences na lang dahil hindi lahat gusto ang gagawin mo."

Carlos also gave his unsolicited advice to newly crowned Mr Fahrenheit/Mr. Gay World Philippines Lenard Kodie Manayac II.

"Give your best because people will expect a lot from the Philippines in pageantry," he said.
