Celebrity-dentist invited as keynote speaker in Spain's oral health confab

Celebrity-dentist Dr. Mario F. Guiang Jr. has been invited as keynote speaker in the upcoming "International Conference on Oral Health and Dentistry" in Barcelona, Spain on Sept. 21-22.

The theme of "Oral Health 2020" conference is "Observing, understanding and forecasting the art and science of Oral Health."

Oral Health 2020 is a multi-year effort to strengthen and unify the oral health network to make systems changes and improve oral health for all. Its partners are aligned around a set of aggressive goals and specific targets to be achieved by the year 2020.

Dr. Guiang has been making a stand to eliminate illegal practice of dentistry especially now that do-it-yourself (DIY) braces are vastly sold online.

One of Philippines Outstanding Men of 2019, Guiang approached the city government of Tarlac to help him disseminate information on the harmful effects of DIY braces.

"The best thing to do is to visit your dentist to avoid diseases which you may encounter through the practice of DIY. Your dentist still knows best," adds Guiang, a member of Dentists Against Dental DIY which advocates the harmful effect of the oral microflora.


After graduating at the Centro Escolar University in 1996, Guiang acquired further studies in the University of Illinois, USA and other prestigious institutions in Asia and Europe. His thirst for knowledge has led him to continue taking his MSc in Periodontics.

Being a known expert in his field, Dr. Guiang was able to do a series of lectures at the Academy of Laser Dentistry, USA. His exceptional performance as speaker in the 15th Euro Dental Congress in Italy has made him co-chairman of the said conference.

"My entry for the Zerondonto Excellence in Prosthodontics helped me a lot (and) I would like to share this award to my Zerodonto family to inspire others to join and be empowered dentists," Dr. Guiang said, when his research was chosen as the country’s entry in an international competition.

This opportunity has also earned him comprehensive training under famous dentists in the USA and Europe. Now he is named as one of the best in neuromuscular and laser dentistry in the country, Italy, China, Macau, Singapore and the UAE.

Guiang is also a member of other prestigious dental organizations such the Philippine Dental Association (Tarlac Dental Chapter), Philippine Society of Periodontology, Philippine Prosthodontic Society,  Academy of Laser Dentistry USA, International Congress of Oral Implantologist USA; and Editor : Research Novelty Clinical oral science and Dentistry) USA. - Robert Requintina
