Pageant crown or P1-B jackpot? Kelvin Vicente makes his choice

Newly crowned Mister Universe Tourism Philippines 2018 Kelvin Aguilan Vicente says he would rather choose the pageant crown than winning the P1.2 billion lottery jackpot.

The 26-year-old Igorot hunk was crowned Mister Universe Tourism Philippines 2018 during a pageant held at the RCBC Plaza in Makati City last October 17.

Vicente, of Baguio City, edged out 18 other male candidates for the inaugural title of the pageant. He will represent the Philippines at the Mister Universe Tourism pageant in Manila in May 2019.

Vicente has been a favorite in the finals after he won four special awards: best in formal wear, best in travel attire, Mr. Camp Tipolo, Mr. Fashion Institute of the Philippines and Mr. Bellnue.

During press presentation days before the finals, Vicente was asked: "Which would you rather have, winning the Mister Universe Tourism Philippines or winning the P1.2 billion lotto jackpot?"

Vicente answered: "I'd rather choose the Mister Universe Tourism title." Some members of the audience were surprised when he chose the crown. He defended his answer and said: "In my heart, that's what I really want so that I can promote the Philippines. Rather than the riches, I will choose the Mister Universe Tourism Philippines title."

Fellow Igorots congratulated Vicente on social media. They say that they are proud of Vicente's achievement.

Vicente earlier rose to fame when he and his group dubbed the Panagbengga Hotties trended on social media after the five hunks trended on social media when they paraded on the streets of Baguio wearing the ethnic bahag during the annual month-long flower festival. The group has been disbanded and its members have went on separate ways.
