Alyssa Muhlach Alvarez safe in Bolivia after flight delay

Pageant fans missed out on Alyssa Muhlach Alvarez of the Philippines when the official candidates for this year's Reina Hispanoamericana 2018 pageant on-going in Bolivia were presented to the press.

During the special show broadcast live on social media last Monday (Tuesday in Manila), pageant fans noticed that Alvarez was not among the 30 official candidates presented to the international media.

Alvarez, 22, daughter of actress Almira Muhlach and basketball star Paul Alvarez, says that she skipped the press presentation because her flight was delayed due to bad weather.

On Instagram, the acoustic singer says: "32 hours of traveling from Manila to Vancouver to New York to Panama and finally to Santa Cruz, Bolivia! Although I didn’t make it to the Press Presentation earlier because my flight was delayed (due to the bad weather in Panama), I am still so honored and excited to represent the Philippines/Filipinas in Reina Hispanoamericana 2018!" She has arrived in Bolivia safely.

Although not a basis in choosing the winner, the press presentation of a beauty pageant serves as an opportunity for the members of media to get to know the candidates up-close through interviews.

The niece of actor Aga Muhlach has also called on pageant fans to support her in her journey to the Latina-dominated beauty pageant.

"I am Alyssa Muhlach Alvarez and I am your Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2018. I am humbly asking for your support in my Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas journey. Kindly help me with the RHA 2018 Voting by liking my photo in the Reina Hispanoamericana Instagram account (@rhispanaoficial);

"The RHA 2018 candidate with the most likes on her photo will automatically be a finalist for Reina Hispanoamericana 2018. I am praying that I can bring home the RHA crown again so we can have a back to back win. Thank you so much!," Alvarez says.

Kapuso actress Teresita Ssen "Winwyn" Marquez is the reigning Reina Hispanoamericana.

Alvarez, niece of actor Aga Muhlach, admits there is pressure to duplicate the victory of Marquez because there was only little time to prepare as she leaves for the contest on Tuesday, Oct. 23. So far, Marquez is the only Filipino and Asian to win in the 27-year-old international pageant.

Asked about the meaningful advice Marquez ever gave her, Alvarez says: "I've talked to win win multiple times na po. In Reina Hispanoamericana, it's super competitive and puro tarayan daw po. But she told me to be myself and be nice to all the people."
