Tonton Gutierrez still hopes to portray dream role

Actor Tonton Gutierrez has been in local show business since the 80s but there's one role which he still dreams of portraying one of these days.

"Marami pa akong role na hindi pa nagagawa like a lawyer or a doctor. Pero I want to portray the role of a lawyer. Lalo na yung mga court scenes and when they debate, they use legal terms," said Gutierrez, during an exclusive interview at the sidelines of Primo Modelo Fashion Preview of Arielle Agasang House of Couture held at the Fisher Mall in Quezon City recently.

The fashion event was also participated in by fashion designers Gusi Guillaran, Nikki Veneracion and Kim Montecarlo.

Gutierrez said that he did not take part in the fashion show but accompanied only his daughter who made her fashion show debut.

"My six year-old daughter Aneeka is part of the bridal fashion show. Parang abay yata. Dapat si Glydel (Mercado) dito pero nasa shooting naman sya ngayon so ako ang sumama dito," the award-winning actor said.

Gutierrez said that he and his wife could not say no to Agasang who invited his daughter to join the fashion event.

"Arielle is a good friend from way, way back. S'ya ang gumawa ng wedding gown ni Glydel nung kinasal kami noong 2004. Pero hindi pa kami kinakasal, kaibigan na talaga namin sya nuon pa. We're just doing Arielle a favor. Kaibigan namin kasi," Gutierrez said.

Aside from Aneeka, Gutierrez said that he has a 12-year-old daughter named Aneesa.

Asked if Aneeka's fashion stint was in preparation for his child's showbiz debut, Gutierrez laughed and said: "Oh no! School muna bago other things."

"Pagnatapos na sila ng school, they can choose kung ano ang gusto nilang gawin sa buhay. Tulad ng ginawa ni Monching (Ramon Christopher Gutierrez) kay Janine Gutierrez, pinag-aral muna sya bago nag-showbiz," Gutierrez added.

When asked to compare his two daughters, Gutierrez said: "Yung eldest sports ang hilig. Medyo mahiyain. Pero yung bunso, medyo bibo. Mahilig din sa dancing."

After having two daughters, Gutierrez said that he and his wife do not wish to have another child.

"Wala na, mashonda na kami! Baka mamaya sabihin sa school ang cute naman ng apo n'yo! Imagine pag 60 years old na ako, 10 na yung bata, pag magkaroon pa kami ng anak next year. Baka hindi na namin mabigyan ng quality time yung bata," Gutierrez added.

Gutierrez said that he has just wrapped up a teleserye on ABS CBN starring Paolo Avelino and Ritz Azul. Mercado, on the other hand, currently stars in "My Love from the Star" on GMA 7. - ROBERT REQUINTINA/TEMPO
