Beauty queen empowers women via dress for success
A successful businesswoman engaged in agriculture and advocates dress for success will represent the Philippines in the inaugural Mrs. Global Universe 2019 pageant which will be held in Singapore on February 24.
"The mission of my advocacy 'Dress for Success' is to empower women to achieve economic independence and encourage them to strive and work harder in life. It's similar to John Robert Powers modelling school," said Irene Montemayor during a press send-off held in Taguig City last Feb. 16.
Irene earned the right to represent the Philippines in the Mrs. Gobal Universe pageant after she won in the Mrs. Philippines Asia Pacific 2019 contest organized by Mitzie Go Gil.
A former fashion stylist, Irene is married to businessman Carlos Montemayor for 15 years now. They have four children. She stands 5'6, loves scuba diving, travel, fitness and goes to the gym regularly.
Irene is a graduate of Legal Management at the University of Santo Tomas and finished her Master's Degree in Communication at the Ateneo de Manila University Graduate School.
The Glam Team of reigning Miss Universe Catriona Gray helped Irene prepare for the international pageant on pasarela, make-up, and question-and-answer. She also calls her walk the Rhumba Walk.
Asked if she feels any pressure as the pageant night approaches, Irene said: "No pressure at all. I am prepared.'' She also believes that her strength lies in the question-and-answer portion.
Irene, relative of ABS CBN broadcast journalist Doris Bigornia, said that she considers motherhood as her biggest achievement these days. She describes herself as dutiful mother, caring daughter, wonderful friend, and passionate colleague. "But I am not a perfect mother."
When she was younger, she wanted to join beauty pageants but her parents did not allow her. "Now I think my time is now in pageants."
Irene also said that her biggest competitor is herself. "The biggest competition is myself. I simply don't look at others." - ROBERT REQUINTINA
