Mrs. Philippines World 2019 Meranie Gadiana Rahman to promote postpartum depression awareness
Beauty queen-philanthropist Mrs. Philippines World 2019 Meranie Gadiana Rahman has said she will continue to promote her advocacy against depression, postpartum depression awareness and drug abuse as she has a stronger voice now.
"Depression and postpartum depression are serious diseases and often leads to drug abuse and suicide if not diagnosed and treated in time and properly. Feeling isolated, helpless with low self esteem are some of the warning sign of depression and postpartum," said Meranie.
Meranie won Mrs. Philippines World 2019 in Paris, France and competed at Mrs World pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada as Mrs Guam World 2019 and She finished in top 8 among the field of 48 contestants.
Now based in Hawaii for more than 15 years, her husband Dr. Inam Rahman, an is a medical and emergency room physician. He is also a pageant director, pageant coach and trainer. They have a three-year-old son named Jaleel.
Meranie said that she is a survivor of postpartum depression and have organized a non-profit organization dubbed “You are Loved Foundation for Postpartum Depression Awareness."
The treatment, she said, is based on self-love, support from family, and positive attitude.
Meranie also said that drug abuse and depression are connected. "Each one can lead to other."
What Meranie is concerned about are the children who she said are the "future leaders and we definitely don’t want to lose them."
Meranie Gadiana Rahman has been recognized for her efforts to campaign her advocacy. She was cited by Hawaii State legislators Honorable John Mizuno, Chair of Health Committee, Speaker of the House Honorable Scott Saiki and Honorable Romy Cachola; and Hawaii State Governor Honorable David Ige.
Meranie Gadiana Rahman who was born and raised in Talisayan, Cagayan de Oro said she is planning to visit the Philippines soon so that she could discuss further her advocacy among politicians and other local leaders. - Robert Requintina
