Go Girl: Mariel Prion
Miss Teen Glam Philippines 2019 Mariel Prion has encouraged her peers to go out and socialize than just spending more time in social media.
"There's more to life than social media and online games. Try other activities like if you have hobbies, enjoy singing and dancing. You develop your skills through these activities," said Prion.
She added: "Explore everything around you. Meet your friends in person. Be with your parents. Perhaps you may want to plan a vacation with them."
"You have to realize that ourselves is not just focused on social media. So I think the youth should be more engaged and be open to people not just online but also in person," said Prion.
Prion said she spends around 2-3 hours on the Internet. "But I am not interested in memes. I am more interested in what's happening around us like the one in Amazon, the forest fires in Australia. I also want to become a lawyer someday. If that happens, I want to give back to our country."
This eloquent Filipino beauty queen is a student of AB Behavioral Sciences at De La Salle University. She is a fashion model at Primo Modelo Philippines; volunteers at Earth Island Institute Philippines; and ambassador at Young Earth Scientists' Society.
Prion, 18, revealed her dreams and goals during a meet-and-greet event at Eastwood Richmonde Hotel in Quezon City as she prepares to represent the country in Little and Teen Glam International 2020 pageant which will be held in the Philippines in January 2020.
For her advocacy, Prion said that she wants to promote zero waste management in the country.
"I grew up in the mountains of Rizal and since then, I realized the beauty of our environment. I want to promote cleanliness so I may advocacy is to promote zero waste management in our country." she said.
Prion said that watching confident Filipino women inspired her to join pageants.
"They seem so confident and so sure of themselves. They are confident. And whenever I watch the television I see them like they are walking and they know what they are doing. During the question and answer portion, they are so knowledgeable of what they are saying. That's the kind of woman I want to become someday." said Prion.
She believes that beauty pageants teach young girls to become independent.
"I thought beauty pageants are just looks and glamour. When you're a beauty queen you are exposed to many backgrounds but you are also aware of what's happening in the world," Prion said.
She also said: "I also learned the value of independence to do things on your own. If you are competing abroad, you are on your own. I think that's what girl should learn, to become independent and wise in everything that you do."
