Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo gets busy at Yale University

You are never too busy to continue your education.

This after former Mutya ng Pilipinas President Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo enrolled at the prestigious Yale University in Connecticut, USA to further her studies in the field of arts.
Based on her social media posts, Hemilyn is enjoying her studies at the Ivy League school although she misses her family so much.

"It's difficult because you are far away from your family and love ones. But this is really one of my goals - to pursue more studies in arts," said Hemilyn during an exclusive online chat.

As an amateur artist, Hemilyn has already sold some of her works.

Hemilyn became a bonafide member of United Women’s Artists Association of the Philippines, a group of professional women having common interests towards the arts.

She has joined several art exhibits, the most recent of which was the event dubbed "Arts South Festival" held at Filinvest in Alabang, Muntinlupa in March.

Hemilyn said that she is expected to come home in September. "From Yale, I might proceed to Canada to visit my mom. I haven't seen her for a long time."

Before she flew to the US, Hemilyn was enrolled at Southeast Asia Interdisciplinary Development Institute Graduate School of Organizational Development where she finished her doctor in philosophy in Organizational Development.

Hemilyn admitted that she misses the pageantry having been in that industry for almost two decades.

"I might go back to pageantry soon. I'm not closing my doors on beauty pageants," she said.

Hemilyn is the daughter of former Casiguran, Sorsogon City Mayor Dr. Oscar Escudero. She is married to Philippine Air Force Major Richard Antonio Tamayo, whose family owns the University of Perpetual Help DALTA Medical Center. They have children.

She took up financial management in Texas, USA and is a product of Charlston School of Protocol and Etiquette and Fashion Image Institute in San Francisco. She is the founder of Total Image, Inc., an image consultant agency.

Hemilyn, a relative of Senator Chiz Escudero, is a popular figure in the pageant industry long before she got married. In 2014, she represented the Philippines at the Mrs. Universe pageant held in Malaysia. Prior to this, she competed in several pageants abroad, appeared on print and television commercials and has done TV hosting.

She also said that she plans to enter the political arena in the future.

This might not come as a surprise anymore considering her late father was a public servant for more than three decades.

Hemilyn also ventured into the beauty and wellness business with the opening of the Beauty Lounge Manila in Las Pinas City. - ROBERT REQUINTINA
