SAS, PH efforts on data analytics rosy - experts

SAS Philippines, the leader in analytics, continues to work hand-in-hand with the government in area of analytics that would help prevent fraud management, anti-money laundering, public safety, and cybersecurity.

"For the government side, we've been working closely with the government in the digital road map for two decades now, " said Ryan Guadalquiver, ASEAN director for business solutions, SAS, during a press conference held at the Makati Shangrila Tuesday.

Quadalquiver added: "In relation to Internet, I think for the past years, there was improvement in terms of speed for the past two years."

"But the government is trying to get into this third telco thing. We hope to ride on that if the third telco comes in because at this point in time, we work more in terms of awareness not just on the government sector but the academe side," Quadalquiver also said.

He added: "So that's the only way we can bring them to that level of adoption. The infrastructure will follow because it is already on-going. But eventually once it's there, the data analytics can come in."

The SAS, which has been the leader in analytics for more than 40 years now, is also at the forefront of helping law enforcement agencies in terms of data analytics.

"We have been progressing in the security aspect and that includes public security. We have been working closely with the military and the police. We are still at the point of giving awareness campaign because they are not used to it," said Quadalquiver.

Other speakers in the press conference were Philip Manalaysay, of SAS Philippines; and Kenneth Koh, Irene Xu, and Jason Loh, all of SAS.

SAS started in North Carolina in the US as a simple means of trying to help the American state's agricultural sector in terms of increasing their produce.

"Our partnership with the Philippines started with IRRI in 1976. In the Philippines, SAS is present more on financial sector such as bank or goccs," he said. -ROBERT REQUINTINA
