Filipino-Chinese groups donate P100 M to prevent coronavirus



Leaders of the Filipino-Chinese community announced on March 12 the P100 million donation worth of medical supplies to the Department of Health (DoH)  for the prevention of COVID-19 in the Philippines.

Henry Lim Bon Liong, president of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII), made the announcement during the Pandesal Forum of Kamuning Bakery Cafe in Quezon City.

"To support the Philippine government's prevention and control efforts against COVID-19, we are donating P100 million worth of medical supplies to help the Department of Health with testing kits and other paraphernalia," said Liong when he read the statement.

Liong said that everything will be coursed through the DoH. "There will be no cash. The donation is in-kind."

He also announced a plan to request China to send the Philippines emergency medical supplies as well as their topnotch medical doctors and experts in handling COVID-19.

"Our Filipino-Chinese community, especially the FFCCCII, is coordinating with the Chinese Embassy through His Excellency Ambassador Huang Xilian and trade partner China on this matter," Liong said.

Filipino-Chinese groups supporting the donation are: Federation of Filipino-Chinese Associations of the Philippines, World News Daily, Filipino Chinese Amity Club, Overseas Chinese Alumni Association of the Philippines, Filipino Chinese Shin Lian Association, Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Overseas Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines, Philippine Soong Ching Ling Foundation, Philippine Jin Jiang Shen Fu Zhen Association, and World Fujian Youth Association and Business Club.

The diverse 11 Filipino Chinese business, civic and cultural organizations represent different ethnic Chinese who are mostly Filipino citizens, but also include sizeable numbers of those who hold passports of Hong Kong, China, etc.

"We at the Federation only want the best for our people because public health is the nation's priceless wealth. Kami sa Filipino-Chinese community ay naniniwala na ang kalusugan ay hindi maihahambing na kayamanan," said Liong.

The FFCCCII also expressed support the government's call for the public to cooperate with hygiene, health, and other measures that are being implemented to contain the spread of virus

The group encouraged the public to practice good hygiene like proper handwashing, avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth; cover coughs and sneezes; clean frequently, practice social distancing, avoid gatherings, crowded places.
