Dr. Mark Fernandez: The cosmetic surgeon is in!

Nose re-shaping is the most popular procedure among women who want to join beauty pageants.

This was revealed by Dr. Mark Fernandez who has done plastic surgery procedures among personalities, during an interview at his clinic in Quezon City recently.

"Rhinoplasty pa rin ang most popular nose procedure sa atin. Idol ng mga Pilipino ang mga Caucasian or American pagdating sa ilong. Sixty percent of women account for this based on our studies. Ito pa rin ang No. 1. I use either silicon or goretex materials," said Fernandez.

After the nose, chin is the second most popular procedure in the face. "Through nose procedure, mag-iiba na talaga ang look ng isang tao."

A rhinoplasty procedure aims to raise the bridge of the nose or make the nose higher or stronger. "The result clearly demonstrate the powerful effect of combined goretex and cartilages. A well done rhinoplasty can have a big impact on a person's life. By improving the appearance of one's nose, the person's face became more beautiful and most importantly added confidence."

"My goal in rhinoplasty is to improve the nose that is uniquely yours, as if you were born with it. Natural looking and creates harmony with the whole face without creating a 'surgical' look," said Fernandez.

Filipino men have also embraced surgery as 20-30 percent of the number of his patients were all males. "Tumaas na nga ito because nasa 10 percent lang ito dati. Thanks to social media at na-inform na ang mga guys on nose surgery."

Fernandez specializes in facial plastic and cosmetic surgery. He has been in the field of plastic surgery for more than 10 years now and has been recognized as an expert in rhinoplasty, body contouring, breast augmentation and everything aesthetic.

"Cosmetic surgery is a discipline grounded in precision and exactitude. Surgeons must possess technical skill, anatomic knowledge and ability to improvise when surgical situations change," he said.

In choosing the best surgeon, Fernandez suggests that the patient must double-check the doctor's training background and board certification.

A doctor recommended by your friends is also okay. "If the doctor has social media accounts, read the comments section."

Asked about the pricing of his services for nose procedures, Fernandez said: "This is how I do the pricing for nose jobs - rhinoplasty is P25,000-P100,00. I'll start with feelers at P25,000; silicon, P40,000; goretex, P80,000; kapag nagpagawa sa iba at palpak, P100,000; pagnag-inject ng silicon oil, P120,000; and pagnag-goretex at nasira or hindi happy sa results, P180,000-P250,000. That's why choose your surgeon well."

Fernandez, president of  the Philippine Academy of Aesthetic Surgery, said that his group has also organized a cosmetic surgery mission dubbed "Operation: Beautiful Eyes" a free blepharoplasty mission, which began in 2016.

"The following year, we conducted 'PAASNoseBest' free rhinoplasty . Last year, we went far north with 'EyelocaNose' in Ilocos Norte. Now Our 4th Mission, "Pagandahan sa Palawan" was accomplished at the Northern Palawan District Hospital in Taytay, Palawan," he said.

Fernandez added: "Ang kagandahan ay para sa lahat. Our mission is to help our fellowmen who can't afford cosmetic surgery."
