Fans swoon over Panagbenga Hotties in Manila

Social media sensations known as the Panagbenga Hotties from Baguio City shared their dreams as fans swooned over the five hunks during an overnight visit to Manila last March 8.

The Panagbenga Hotties -- Renz Lou Lagria, Jasen Ramos, Kelvin Aguilan-Vicente, John Rey Tenedero, and Kayzer Brooks Gewan - made a special appearance at the trade launch of the Prime Event Productions Philippines Foundation, Inc. (PEPPS) at House Manila in Pasay City to promote the Man of the World 2017 contest.

The five gentlemen earned the title of Panagbenga Hotties after they trended on social media during the annual month-long flower festival where they paraded on the streets of Baguio wearing the ethnic bahag.

In an exclusive interview, the five young men shared their dreams now that their group has gone viral on Internet.

Lagria, 20, said: "Pangarap ko po na mawala ang misconceptions about Igorot."

"Gusto ko pong makilala ang Cordillera hindi lang sa Pilipinas kundi sa buong mundo," said Ramos, 20.

Aguilan-Vicente, 25, said: "I want to emphasize to the youth that they should be proud of their culture like yung pagiging Igorot. Kasi meron pa rin discrimination. Hindi pa rin kasi nila alam ang itsura ng Igorot. So we're here to show and enlighten the people that we are warriors and proud or our culture."

"Pangarap ko naman po ay magtapos ng Hotel and Restaurant Management, mag-work, makapag-ipon at mag-tayo ng sariling business," said Tenedero, 20.

Gewan, 20, shared: "I want the people to know that we are born warriors."

Alex Mondaragon, manager for the group, said that five gentlemen are gym mates in the Cordillera who have been friends for a long time.

Mondragon said that they are very surprised at the reception of netizens to the Panagbenga Hotties.

"Nagulat talaga kami dahil hindi namin inaasahan na ganito ang mangyayari.  May mga invitations na for their television appearances, radio interviews, and other activities. But we are prioritizing the province first. Dun pa lang may overlapping na ng schedules."

Mondragon also said offers for commercial endorsements have already started to pour in for the group. "We cannot reveal yet these offers and other activities because we are still in the negotiating tables pa po."

PEPPS president Carlo Morris Galang also announced the four major events for PEPPS for 2017. "This is a milestone for our organization and I am proud of what we have done so far."

Aside from Man of the World contest, other activities to look forward to are the Philippine Pageant Ball, Misters of Filipinas and Halloween Horror House.

"We are making history because we really haven't had a major avenue for all the pageants to be celebrated," said JP Anonuevo, event's project head. - Robert Requintina/TEMPO
