Jake Cuenca to undergo surgery after bike mishap
Actor Jake Cuenca is expected to undergo surgery on two broken bones on his hand on Friday, March 17, after he figured in a bike accident at the SM Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay City last Tuesday morning, a radio report said.
Cuenca, 29, was rushed to the hospital after the bike he was riding slammed a truck around the vicinity of SM MOA where he was training.
Juanto Cuenca, father of the actor, told DZMM in an interview that Jake hit a truck which suddenly stopped in front of him around 7 a.m.
"Si Jake kasi every morning, he trains for Ironman sa may MOA. Biglang nagpreno ang isang malaking truck and he did not have time to break, so tinamaan niya yung truck. Dumiretso siya sa ospital. Nasa emergency room siya, nasa trauma," said Juanto during the radio interview
"Yung driver niya mismo [ang nagdala sa kanya sa ospital] because there were no ambulances on site. Sa Medical City, that's where he is now. Meron siyang two broken bones on the hand. He had to have stitches in his chin. They are still continuing with the tests kung ano pa ang damage sa kanya," Juanto added.
Juanto was also referring to Ironman 70.3 which is one of a series of long distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC).
The "70.3" refers to the total distance in miles (113.0 km) covered in the race, consisting of a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, a 56-mile (90 km) bike ride, and a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run.
Jake will be seen in the upcoming Kapamilya series "Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin" where he will play the role of a triathlete. He will also appear in another indie film entitled "Requited." - Robert Requintina
