Baste Duterte makes showbiz debut on TV5
"Sayang ang trabaho."
These are the words of Presidential son Sebastian "Baste" Duterte when asked why he decided to join show business during the launch of his reality TV program "Lakbai" which will air after PBA on TV5 starting May 21.
Duterte, the youngest son of President Rodrigo Duterte, said that he never consulted anybody about appearing on national television.
"Convince me? They did not convince me. Decision ko lang ito. Hindi ko na mapigilan kaya nag decide na lang ako ko try showbiz. Yun lang talaga yun. If it doesn't work out, uuwi na lang ako sa Davao," said Duterte during the press launch at the Aracama Restaurant at the Fort in Taguig City last Wednesday night.
At the press event, Duterte and the cast of the show were welcomed by TV5 President Chot Reyes and TV5 officials Mell Yazon-Tolentino and TV5 Head of Marketing and D5 Lloyd Manaloto.
Duterte also said that he never want to pursue acting when he joined showbiz.
"Parang ano lang naman...kasi reality show lang naman kaya wala namang pinagkaiba. I'm just being myself," he said. "Wala talaga akong hilig sa pag acting. Reality show lang kasi ito. Wala lang trabaho lang. Sayang din naman ang trabaho. Pero OK naman."
Duterte said that he suggested to the management of TV5 that his close friends join the reality show so that he would be comfortable facing camera.
"Talagang nag suggest ako na makasama ko sila kasi camera shy ako. At saka para maging comfortable ako," he said.
Duterte also reacted to reports that he is one of the hottest bachelors in the country these days.
"Tutoo ba yan? Nasan sila? Nasan yung mga babae? Hindi ko naman slia nakikita!" he said, as members of the media laughed.
Duterte invited the people to watch his travel show.
"Manood kayo please! Para sa lahat ng Pilipino. Let's forget about colors. If you want a reality adventure travel show, watch 'Lakbai' on TV 5," he said.
Baste, 28, who has risen to matinee idol levels, is the youngest son of President Duterte by ex-wife Elizabeth Zimmerman. His siblings are eldest brother Paolo, vice mayor of Davao City, and lawyer Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio, mayor of the same city.
He is a single parent who stays with his two children, lives in a house next to his father's house in Davao City. An ordinary day would see him tending his junk shop business and later go surfing.
Joining Baste in the show is internet sensation Bogart The Explorer who is known for his hilarious adventures as seen on viral videos. Completing the gang are three of Baste's closest friends: Atty. Alexis Lumbatan, Sboi Malicay, and Andrei Apostol, who is designated videographer of the group.
"Lakbay is not just another travel program showcasing the country's views and food. This eight-week special is about a group of bros who find the best places to have a travel adventure," said Reyes. -ROBERT REQUINTINA
