Cory tells millennials: 'Think before you post'
Mutya President Cory Quirino has one piece of advice to millennials joining pageants: think before you post.
"Be very careful. What you do now, especially for the millennials joining other pageants, what you do today, what you post today, is going to haunt you tomorrow," said Quirino when asked about girls who dream of joining pageants, during a press send-off for Cyrille Payumo at CWC Interiors, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.
Payumo will represent the Philippines at the Miss Tourism International 2019 pageant in Malaysia on Nov. 8. She left Oct. 23 for the competition.
"There are times you are faced with the challenge of reaching your dreams, because of what you did in the past, many pageant organizers, if not most, can be lenient and understanding about those things. But there are pageant organizers that are very strict. And then they have to prepare you for the international competition whose standards are also very strict," said Quirino said.
"So before joining pageants, think twice and think hard about the past and what you did in the past. They will haunt you," she added.
"And then you are now in the pageant. You have to prioritize your being feminine. Always be a lady. And work when grace is under pressure. This is what makes a beauty queen," Quirino said.
Payumo replaced Tyra Goldman who was originally crowned Mutya Pilipinas-Miss Tourism International.
"However, in compliance with the new rules of Miss Tourism International requiring Philippine born contestants, a decision was reached by the Mutya Pilipinas management to send Payumo instead," Quirino said.
Quirino said that Goldman will represent the Philippines in another competition in 2020.
She also encouraged Filipino pageant fans around the world to support Payumo by voting with the use of Star Phone app ad dial *1313. - Robert Requintina
