Beauty queen Charo Laude thanks Manila Mayor Isko Moreno

Actress Charo Laude, who will represent the Philippines in Mrs. Universe 2019 beauty pageant in China, thanked Manila Mayor Isko Moreno for allowing his son Joaquin to join in her outreach program nationwide.

"Mayor Isko, thank you for allowing your son Joaquin to help me in my nationwide outreach program," said Laude during an interview at Simon's Place Acoustic Bar and Restaurant in Timog, Quezon City.

In their nationwide tour, both Laude and Joaquin will conduct medical missions and other worthwhile projects for the poor.

Laude said that she and Mayor Isko have been friends for many years now because they belong to the same talent management under Daddy Wowie Roxas.

"I also want to thank Daddy Wowie because andiyan pa rin siya to guide us," the single mom said.

Asked what she can share about the popular city mayor, Laude said: "Si Isko noong hindi pa siya mayor, pagnagkikita kami sa events, very humble siya. Minsan magulo at makulit. Hindi pa rin siya nagbabago kahit mayor na siya."

Laude will compete against 80 contestants in the 2019 Mrs. Universe in Guangzhou, China, from Dec. 22 until Jan. 1, 2020.

This is the first time that her family would celebrate the holidays in China and they love it. "Magkakasama kasi kaming lahat kaya happy kami sa darating na Kapaskuhan at Bagong Taon."

Laude currently appears in the popular teleserye "Kadenang Ginto" on ABS-CBN. Her previous credits include Bocaue Pagoda Tragedy, Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko, etc. In 1995, she was a member of the Monday group of That's Entertainment.

Pageant observers said that Filipino contestants rarely win if the contest is held in China.

Asked to comment on this, Laude said: "God is really good. Kung para sa iyo, ibibigay niya."

Laude said that she is also focused on her advocacy which is anti-violence against women. (Robert R. Requintina)
