Miss Philippines Ma. Ahtisa Manalo is now enjoying the sights in Japan as she gains new friends at the Miss International 2018 beauty contest on-going in Tokyo. Manalo, 21, is aiming to be the 7th Miss International title holder from the Philippines. Other Filipinas who have won in the 58-year-old pageant were Gemma Cruz (1964), Aurora Pijuan (1970), Melanie Marquez (1979), Precious Lara Quigaman (2005), Bea Rose Santiago (2013) and Kylie Verzosa (2016). In one of her latest Instagram posts, Manalo shared a photo of her roommate in the pageant. She wrote:  "Meet my new roommate for the whole Miss International activities, Martha! Three persons - male, female and trans woman - will join the government's campaign to fight human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) which causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) after they were chosen ambassadors of the LHIVE Free REDvocates Advocacy by the Department of Health (DoH) during a tri-pageant held at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City recently. The winners are: male - Joseph Xavier Pili of Naga City; Kelvin Kai Angala, San Pedro, 1st runner-up; and Jearu Ed Magbuhat, Batangas, 2nd runner-up. 30 candidates vie for gov't ambassadors vs HIV/AIDS

Thirty candidates - 10 men, 10 women and 10 transgender women - are vying for ambassadors of the government's campaign against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) which causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The 30 official "redvocates" of the contest known as LHIVE Free tri-pageant were formally presented to the press during a special show held at House Manila in Pasay City last Sept. 20. They are: male category - Richard Prayco, Joshua Jimenea, Joseph Xavier Pili, Abdullah Silawi, Kelvin Kai Angala, Roland John Torres, Julian Mari Lee, Jearu Ed Magbuhat and Joeser Sinfuego. Female category - Precious Olay Neyra, Patricia Agapito, Joanne Tampoco, Alita Anlei Tupaz, Karen Nicole Piccio, Joanna Day, Patrixia Sherly Santos, Maria Lianina Macalino, Elisa Taylor, and Marie Sherry Ann Tormes. Wider coverage for benefits on mental health pushed

Senator Risa Hontiveros and former Miss International Kylie Verzosa led the campaign to boost mental health awareness as they call on health maintenance organizations (HMOs) to provide wider coverage on benefits dealing with mental health. "There is an encouragement in the mental health law that calls for HMOs to include and expand specific mental health conditions," says Hontiveros, who was guest of honor, during the Mental Health Matters Fair held at Crown Spaces, a co-working and event space, in Makati City August 18. Hontiveros adds: "There are human resources directors who tell me that they are really hesitant to hire people with mental condition not just in the schools, not just in our families, not just in government but also in the workplace and private sector. The country's two rival beauty camps - Kagandahang Flores and Aces and Queens - have joined forces to help the Department of Health (DoH) in the new renewed fight against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) which causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Former Miss International Kylie Verzosa has said that she enjoyed her acting debut in "Ang Panday" despite criticisms that she doesn't know how to act on screen. "First of all, thank you. Yung unang sabak ko po, first time ko talaga yun. Yung workshop ko a few minutes before, a day before ma-brief lang po ako," said Verzosa when sought to react to criticisms on her acting skills, during an interview on "Tonight With Boy Abunda" on ABS CBN. Indonesian model makes history in Miss International 2017

An Indonesian model made history when she was crowned Miss International 2017 during a pageant held in Tokyo, Japan last Tuesday night, Nov. 14. Kevin Lilliana Junaedy, 21, is the first Indonesian to win the title in the 57-year history of the pageant. She was crowned by outgoing Miss International Kylie Verzosa from the Philippines. She beat 70 other women for the title. Junaedy finished interior design at the Maranatha Christian University in her hometown. Reports said that her name Kevin came from the blockbuster Hollywood film "Home Alone" in which Macaulay Culkin plays the role of a young boy named Kevin McCallister. First runner- up honors went to Miss Curacao Chanelle de Lau; Miss Venezuela Diana Croce, 2nd runner-up; Miss Australia Amber Dew, 3rd runner-up; and Miss Japan Tsutsui Natsuki, 4th runner-up.
