Villar marks 5th anniversary of Baseco project

To mark the 5th anniversary of her various projects in Baseco Compound, Tondo, Sen. Cynthia Villar led a clean-up activity in the area. Since 2015, Villar has been returning to Barangay 649, Gasangan, a coastal community along Manila Bay, to conduct monthly clean up and tree-planting activities as well as to check on the progress of the construction of toilets and status of the various livelihood projects she established for the residents. Villar, chairperson of the committee on environment, natural resources, and climate change, expressed her gratitude to individuals and groups who contributed to the success of the projects. “Looking back, rehabilitating Baseco looked like a daunting task but your continued cooperation encouraged me to carry on. Villar leads groundbreaking of Wetland Center

Sen. Cynthia Villar led the groundbreaking ceremonies which sets into motion the construction of the Wetland Center at the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park. The groundbreaking also marks World Wetlands Day, an annual celebration held on February 2 to commemorate the day the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands was adopted in 1971. This year’s theme is Wetlands and Climate Change. “It is only fitting that we mark this special day with the groundbreaking for the facility that will make visiting the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park, the only Ramsar site in the country situated in an urban setting, more convenient and educational,” Villar said. The wetland center, which is a donation from the Villar Family, will house a restaurant, a training center, a museum, a souvenir shop and a satellite office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Villar leads tree planting for Mandela’s 100th birthday

Green warriors led by environment advocate Sen. Cynthia A. Villar have bonded together for a tree planting activity at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park in celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day recently. Villar, chairperson of the Senate committee on environment and natural resources, was the guest of honor of the event, which was organized by United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Manila to commemorate the 100th birthday of the late South Africa president Nelson Mandela. Kapamilya star Anne Curtis-Smith took the challenge to flip a bottle as she helps raise awareness on climate change. "I am flipping a bottle for climate change because if we don't raise awareness and ACT now the future generation will be the ones to face the consequences of climate change," said Curtis on Instagram.
