Sri Lankan is Darling of the Press in Miss Asia Pacific Int'l

Forty-two beautiful and empowered women from all over the world are vying for the title of Miss Asia Pacific International 2017. Some of the women competing in this year's pageant are models, nurses, lawyers, doctors, singers and actresses. During press presentation held at the Edsa Shangri-La in Mandaluyong City last Nov. 13, Miss Sri Lanka Hasini Samuel was chosen Darling of the Press. First runner-up was Miss Mauritius Aylasha Ramrachia and Miss Vietnam Vuong Thanh Tuyen, 2nd runner-up. "More than having the girls compete with each other, the organization is focused on forging solidarity among the girls and inspiring them to be epitomes of a strong and confident woman who is proud of herself, her culture, and everything that makes her what she is," said Jacqueline Tan-Sainz, president of the Miss Asia Pacific International pageant. Sen. Cynthia Villar, 'Wowowin' honor heroes of Marawi

Christmas came early for soldiers who risked their lives in Marawi City after they were honored on the popular game show "Wowowin" on GMA 7 last Oct. 26-27. Senator Cynthia Villar, retired Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff and incoming Local Government Undersecretary Gen. Eduardo Ano and game show host Willie Revillame led the program in paying tribute to the brave Filipino soldiers. Three lucky soldiers in the studio went home with house and lot courtesy of Bria Homes, which were donated by Senator Villar. They are Piccolo Dela Cruz, of Malabon; Fernando Julian, Pangasinan; and Jesus Pancho III, General Trias, Cavite. They went home with certificates to their new house and lot. The Charity Diva in Token Lizares

Token Lizares has cemented her status as Charity Diva when she performed at the Awit sa Marawi and helped raised P3.5 million for Filipino soldiers at the Armed Forces of the Philippines Theater in Quezon City last Aug. 15. "My experience in the Marawi show was unforgettable. Touching. It was fulfilling kasi alam ko na 100 percent for a good cause ang show. And that Joel Cruz is really heaven sent for Marawi," said Lizares during an interview after the show. Lizares has been helping many charitable institutions here and abroad. Recently, she was one of the artists who staged a benefit concert for the victims of the Marawi siege held in AFP Theater. She started singing at 19 performing at the Manila Garden and Philippine Plaza Hotel (now Sofitel). She has also performed in different Asian countries like Malaysia, Japan, New York and Singapore back in the 80s singing mostly for Royal Families.
