Meet the overseas, regional bets of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2017



The official candidates of the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2017 beauty pageant will be presented to the members of the press later this July.

But this early, we are rolling out the overseas and regional candidates for one of the most enduring and successful beauty contests in the country.

Jacqueline Tan, president of the Mutya ng Pilipinas Organization, said that the pageant highlights “beauty tourism” inspired by promoting tourism, social responsibility, fashion and pageantry in the Philippines and in the Asia-Pacific.

This year's winners will represent the country in international pageants, namely Miss Asia Pacific International and Miss Tourism International.

The grand coronation night of the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2017 beauty contest will be held at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City on Aug. 4.

Started in 1968, Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant has produced some of the country's world-class Filipina beauties. They include Maria del Carmen Ines Zaragoza, Gloria Dimayacyac, Lorna Legaspi, Michelle Aldana, Angeli Dione Gomez, and the late Rizzini Gomez.

OVERSEAS CANDIDATES

Mutya ng Scandinavia Bertmari Yr Bergmannsdottir, 21, from Iceland has a diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management. “I received a scholarship from the Cesar Ritz Colleges in Switzerland to complete my degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management  which is offered to me this July 2017.   Instead of pursuing my studies, I took the opportunity of joining Mutya ng Pilipinas,” the Scandinavian beauty said as she competes in a beauty contest for the first time.

Mutya ng Melbourne Abigail Grigsby, 18, stands 5’11” tall. She’s a model at MASmodel, Ltd. Co. She was also one of the top crown bearers of Top Model of the World Philippine 2016.

Mutya ng California Suzanne Perez, 20, is a pre-school teacher and a model at Prestigious Models & Talent Agency.  She's an ambassador for the youth at UNA, a non-profit organization for children.  “I come from a family of politicians, mayors and senators,” she said. She was Miss Popularity/Miss People’s Choice 2nd Runner-up at Miss Philippines USA 2015 and the current titleholder of Miss Fullerton USA 2016. She was so grateful to her Filipino mom whom she describes as her first role model, bestfriend and forever love. “Thank you for raising me to be independent, strong, confident in who I am.  I appreciate everything you have done and given us.”

Mutya ng Japan Jesas Wada, 22, won Best in Swimsuit, Miss Photogenic and People’s Choice during Mutya ng Japan 2017 search. “I love enhancing other people’s beauty using my self-taught make-up skills,” said Wada, a former winner of Reyna ng Bulacan in 2014.

Rica Sey, 20, won Miss Philippines Australia 2015. Her special awards were Best in Swimwear and Miss Photogenic. Sey is a dance teacher at Dance City of Performing Arts.  She also loves mixed martial arts, surfing, reading and enjoying the company of family and friends.  Her mission in life is to be a humanitarian.

Representing the overseas community of Singapore is Darlene May Reyes. She studied BS International in Travel and Tourism.  A former flight attendant from San Pascual, Batangas, Reyes said: “I was one of the youngest licensed flight attendants in the year 2013 (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines), former face of Cebu Pacific Air and hosted flight launch events in various countries, I moved abroad at a young age to step out of my comfort zone.”  She’s also the youngest marketing executive at Maserati’s management team. “Thank you for the gift of love and the gift of wonderful people I’ve met along my journey."

Khristel Abbeygale Cuesta won the Miss Pilipinas Canada 2016 where she also received special awards such as Best in Swimsuit, Best in Evening Gown and Popularity Award.

Nicole Marie Deguilmo, 18, is from the United Kingdom, who believes that the fastest way she could get her voice heard in society was by taking part in the pageant.

Mutya ng Hawaii Savannah Gankiewicz.  This 21-year-old model from Maui, Hawaii is a mixture of Filipino, Chinese, Spanish and Vietnamese beauty. "My great uncles were former mayors in Abra,'' she said. Gankiewicz bagged the People's Choice Award as Miss Super Talent of the World 2015. She also participated in Miss Virginia Teen USA 2013.

REGIONAL CANDIDATES

Nicole Kristel Losloso, 19, is representing Southern Mindanao. She is a 4th year student taking up Electrical Engineering at the Southern Luzon State University. She hails from Pagbilao, Quezon.

Maxine Xanti Manalus, 19, is Central Luzon's candidate. She is a 4th year student taking up BS Nursing at Holy Angel University.  She won Binibining Turismo in 2015.

Chella Grace Falconer,  from Northern Mindanao, wants to become a CPA-lawyer and neurologist.  “I love studying science, including astronomy and neurology.  I can be kind, strong and fierce.”

Louise Lian Enumerable comes from Northern Mindanao. She is also a model at Nouveau Management.  She studied BS Tourism Management at Colegio San Agustin in Bacolod.  She’s part of Magic 106.3 Bacolod. “I am a woman whose exploration and imagination will never be limited by my physical limitations.” - ROBERT REQUINTINA
